Reporting into the Platform and Infrastructure Manager, the Platform and Infrastructure Team Lead is responsible for leading and managing a team of server and storage infrastructure professionals in implementing and maintaining both on-premises and Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments. This role involves overseeing the infrastructure lifecycle, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of the council's server infrastructure.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and design scalable, reliable, and secure server infrastructure solutions for both on-premise and Azure IaaS environments.
Maintain architectural standards, best practices, and documentation for server infrastructure design and implementation.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend infrastructure improvements and optimise resource utilisation.
Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of on-premises servers and Azure IaaS resources, ensuring adherence to established standards and security guidelines.
Monitor server performance, capacity, and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues to maintain optimal performance and user experience.
Implement and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies to protect critical server infrastructure and ensure data integrity.
Manage the deployment and administration of Azure IaaS resources, including virtual machines, virtual networks, storage accounts, and security controls.
Optimise Azure resource utilisation, implement cost management strategies, and monitor compliance with Azure subscription policies.
Collaborate with architects and security teams to ensure Azure IaaS environments align with organisational standards and compliance requirements.
Lead the resolution of server infrastructure-related incidents and problems, coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and service providers as necessary.
Participate in and provide escalation support for critical incidents outside of regular business hours.
Conduct post-incident reviews, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures to enhance server infrastructure stability.
Leadership
As a member of the council’s management team, to contribute proactively to the collective leadership for the council, working collaboratively with Members, services across the council, partners and stakeholders to deliver the council’s objectives and priorities.
To drive positive cultural change, embodying and promoting the values and behaviours of the council and empowering staff to reach their full potential. Ensure that the performance and development framework is effective for all staff.
To lead on and ensure the effective implementation of corporate initiatives and transformation programmes that cut across the whole or part of the council’s activities.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
Create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Share knowledge and best practices with team members, providing training and mentoring to enhance overall technical capabilities.
Service Management
To ensure that all service incidents and requests are acknowledged in a timely manner, are effectively managed, with good user communication, and are resolved within the agreed SLA.
To prepare or contribute to Major Incident reports including recommendations to reduce the likelihood and impact of future incidents.
Service continuity
To assist in business continuity exercises and lead the restoration of services following any business continuity event.
Additional:
The service operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm, and you will be required to work as directed within these hours; and you may be required to carry out essential maintenance work at other times out of hours.
To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed by the line manager.
To undertake training, including self-learning, and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars, and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
