About you
You will have:
• Comprehensive understanding of Countryside Management
• A level and or countryside management NVQs
• Natural history knowledge and livestock handling
• Computer literate
• Minimum of 2 years employment in a countryside management, natural or earth sciences discipline
• Practical countryside skills, estate management skills, tree, grassland, heathland, livestock conservation management, map reading, relevant ICT and able to confidently present to the public
• Good working knowledge of hand tools, small power tools, tractors sit on mowers, motor vehicles, trailers, 4-wheel drive vehicles vehicle mounted spraying
• Understanding of Green Infrastructure opportunities from a health and wellbeing/recreation perspective, combined with an understanding of the nature conservation and ecological value of Green Infrastructure
• Able to clearly understand and balance the management of nature conservation and public access and enjoyment

The Kilchoan Estate is a cultural and educational enterprise in rewilding, preservation & sustainability. Across 1500 acres we are restoring habitats, creating gardens and caring for historic breed livestock. We are looking for enthusiastic applicants to join our team and assist with the development of the estate, gardens and grounds with a focus on the integration of livestock into a conservation grazing rotation.
Situated on the north shores of Loch Melfort, the estate rises from sea-level to 270m. There are a range of distinct habitats including grasslands, peatlands, semi-natural ancient woodland, newly planted native woodland & exotic forestry plantations. We also run several marine projects including a native oyster restoration project and a kelp farm.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in a varied role, encompassing a range of tasks across the estate. Working as part of the estate team but also assisting the garden & building departments, the ideal candidate must be capable of following instruction and using their own initiative and expertise.
Duties will include (but not limited too) livestock care & management, grazing management, planting, fencing, path creation, assisting wildlife monitoring, habitat management and assisting with both marine and terrestrial restoration projects. The main responsibilities for this role are
• Day to day interaction with highland cattle including record keeping.
• Processing and co-ordinating the use of firewood across all properties.
• Tractor driving and maintenance, use of front loader bucket, forks and grab. Use of PTO driven implements- toppers, pan mixers etc.

Necessary
• Tractor driving & operation experience
• Handling of livestock

Desirable
• Chainsaw certificate
• Spraying certification- herbicides
• Trailer use

Training, both formal and informal offered. Ongoing personal, professional development supported. There is opportunity for visiting and collaborating with outside organisations across many projects.

We are looking for an ecologist with a strong work ethic, a commercial mindset and hunger for knowledge to learn about the nature markets in which we operate. Initially the majority of the role will include client relationship, managing quotes and sales of our products with opportunities to expand into more senior roles with experience.
Duties will include –
• Monitoring and responding to incoming requests for quotes;
• Reviewing biodiversity metrics;
• Client relationship and managing our sales and quotes database - excel based database;
• Administration of successful sales;
• Arranging quotes from 3rd party ecological consultants and managing contracts;
• Occasional travel to our nature reserves to deliver our environmental promises;

You will be supervised and supported by a strong team to enable you to become independent, and empower you to learn and develop valuable skills for this emerging industry.
Your skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A good understanding of ecology and wildlife legislation
• Proficient using MS Office
• Previous experience relating to nature markets are desirable.
• Previous experience relating to the development sector are desirable.

But to enjoy your time at Wild Capital, you’ll also need to be personable, passionate, and proactive. We’re a friendly bunch but we do work hard.
You’ll need to hold a full, valid UK driving licence as your role may involve you travelling to various sites across the country.

Responsibilities
Our focus is on providing high quality ecological expertise to ensure our client’s projects move forward while ensuring protection and benefits for nature and wildlife. As a key member of the team you will undertake a wide range of ecological consultancy contracts on behalf of NWS clients including:
• Protected species surveys and assessments (including bats, great crested newts, water voles, reptiles, Schedule 1 birds)
• Site and Habitat surveys and assessment
• Conservation management advice (species and habitats)
• Ecological Clerk of Works on selected projects

We are looking for someone with a degree in ecology or its equivalent as well as a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in ecological consultancy or equivalent sectors
You will enjoy working as part of a small, committed team and relish the challenge of working with a range of clients on different projects. In addition, you will ideally have:
• Experience of ecological field survey work.
• Understanding of relevant UK environmental legislation.
• Membership of (or working towards such) the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or equivalent professional body with professional code of conduct.
• Experience in report writing (including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans and Ecological Impact Assessments), and development of mitigation measures.
• A full clean UK driving licence.

The role is 37.5 hours per week
We support Hybrid working, so there will be the opportunity to work from home in this role and work flexible hours. Travel to sites throughout the Westcountry will also be required regularly; this role is a mixture of office and site based. The Westcountry Rivers Trust is an environmental charity that works throughout the South West to improve our rivers for the benefit of all. Our work spans a huge range of projects to deliver change both in our rivers and on the land that they drain. We bring together stakeholder and interest groups in catchments across the South West to develop and deliver catchment action plans that will bring meaningful and lasting benefits for people and the environment.
The Evidence & Engagement Team supports the Trust’s on-going work in using a whole ecosystem approach to plan and deliver nature-based solutions for catchment management and river improvement initiatives for the river catchments of the South West and beyond. The team is instrumental in ensuring that the Trust is delivering the right measures, in the right places, and in monitoring and reporting the impacts of our work. Effective engagement and communication is essential to ensure that key stakeholders, both external and internal at WRT, are well informed and engaged.
We are looking for an engaging and competent candidate who is passionate about the environment and who also has a keen interest in engagement and the communication of scientific data. This is an entry level role which will provide a range of experiences supporting the different work streams of the EE Team as well as the wider Trust.
The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to ensure project delivery. While a broad knowledge of the issues currently facing our water environment is highly desirable, specialist knowledge is not essential for this role.
WRT is committed to investing in its team. Training, support and mentoring will be provided to the right candidate to develop into this role.
