Reporting to the Group Chief Finance Officer, the post is responsible for developing, leading and delivering the overall estate strategy of the Trust, including supporting the effective delivery of capital project management. The Trust is comprised of the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London, Whipps Cross and Newham University Hospitals. In keeping with the recommendations of the Richards Review of Diagnostics (2020) we are developing a Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital. The CDC is part of a wider programme to reform & renew the delivery of diagnostics to meet increasing demand for services. CDCs will also facilitate patients having their diagnostic tests performed closer to home and within the local community, will be opened for12 hours a day over 7 days a week.

We have a very exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Chief Cardiorespiratory Physiologist/scientist role at the Mile End Hospital. The post holder would be accountable to the Head of Cardiorespiratory Physiology and report to the lead for respiratory physiologist and site leadership at Mile End CDC.

The post holder will function independently as an expert physiologist in respiratory Physiology. They will work closely with service leads for Cardiorespiratory physiology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to maintain their clinical skills and to develop their skills into the cardiorespiratory diagnostics.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Lung Function Service at the Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) in Mile End. The service will run 12 hours a day across 7 days, therefore the successful candidate may be required to work 12 hour shifts. The role is to run the lung function services at the site. There will be an expectation to participate in the service development and expansion in due course.

The role will also provide cross site working for lung function within other Trust sites. There will be an opportunity to train in cardiorespiratory diagnostics, including CPET and ECG analysis. There is also an element of training and supervising of junior staff as well as assisting in cardiopulmonary based research/audit projects. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in quality assurance within these services and for a component of training in other areas in respiratory physiology

An experienced Senior Band 6 or Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist/Highly Specialized Echocardiographer/Cardiac Scientist is required to work competently in a busy Echocardiography Department. The post-holder will be required to perform complex-level tasks unsupervised or supervised (working towards unsupervised) and assist senior staff as needed. The post holder must be able to rotate between St Bartholomew’s Hospital and one other hospital site within the Trust network. The post-holder will be required to work autonomously as a senior staff member within the non-invasive Cardiac Diagnostics department, assisting senior staff with managerial tasks. In addition, the post-holder will be required to supervise, train, guide, and support staff in the performance of their roles and to provide support to senior staff members. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated senior doctor in training (above ST4 or equivalent) with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement to join the Department of Acute Medicine, Whipps Cross University Hospital, as a chief registrar.


The chief registrar role provides senior trainees with 40-50% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Learning that chief registrars gain from the Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP’s) bespoke development programme will be put into practice in a supported environment that provides autonomy, flexibility and support to develop and support projects that address key local challenges and priorities. This may include service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce, and sustainability.

The chief registrar role is a leadership role for senior specialty trainees. The role provides 40-50% protected time to develop and implement local initiatives focusing on, for example, service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce and sustainability.

Chief registrars benefit from access to a bespoke taught development programme provided by the RCP, which runs from September 2024 to June 2025 and comprises five 2-day modules that chief registrars are expected to attend.

The chief registrar will ideally report to and be mentored by the medical director, a nominated deputy, or other senior clinical leader. The mentor role requires a minimum time commitment of monthly 1 hour meetings with the chief registrar, and this commitment should be taken into account when nominating a suitable mentor.

The chief registrar will also have a named educational supervisor for their clinical role, who may or may not be the same as their clinical supervisor.

There will be formal educational oversight of the role, with an induction, educational agreement, personal development plan and regular appraisals.

For NTN posts, the chief registrar role may be undertaken in programme or out of programme (training or experience), to be determined locally depending on local workforce requirements and individual training needs and preferences.

Any necessary extension to certificate of completion of training (CCT) date is also negotiated and approved locally, with involvement of the Training Programme Director (TPD)/Head of School where appropriate.

Approval of the relevant Specialist Advisory Committee will be required for OOPT requests.

NTN trainees must discuss applications for chief registrar roles with their education supervisor and TPD in advance of applying. Permission to apply for the role must be obtained from the TPD.

The principle requirement of the GMC is that the chief registrar role should be undertaken at a site approved by the GMC for training in the applicants’ specialty. For LEDs, local discussion should occur with the Trust chief registrar lead and educational supervisor to ensure suitability for the programme.

Local assessment of prior experience to be at ST4 or above will be made within the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, strategic and enthusiastic individual to support the delivery of the Whipps Cross Health and Care Services Strategy, and to contribute to the development and delivery of the out-of-hospital and integrated care transformation programmes within the scope of the Integrated Delivery Framework for Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Whipps Cross Hospital.

You will work with partners in the local health and care system to identify opportunities in the development of service transformation programmes at Whipps Cross Hospital in order to deliver high quality, sustainable and affordable healthcare services for the local population.

The redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital offers an unprecedented opportunity to regenerate a unique site and create an integrated health, care and wellbeing campus connecting community, primary and social care services. This role will support the Trust to develop and implement new clinical pathways and innovative ways of working through an integrated care offer, while engaging with local authorities, healthcare providers and others in the wider healthcare system to ensure a joined-up approach that is aligned to the NHS Long Term Plan and the strategies within the North East London Integrated Care System.

The role will be responsible for engaging with staff, service users and other stakeholders to support the development of integrated models of care service strategies and associated delivery plans. The post holder will work with the Whipps Cross clinical teams, Barts Health’s Clinical Boards and wider system partners to ensure plans are aligned and implemented throughout the duration of the programme.

As Associate Strategy Delivery Director, you will need strong leadership skills and the ability to manage the production of service delivery plans, ensuring the appropriate team/s plan the necessary action to deliver the required outputs and achieve desired outcomes. You will need the ability to think strategically with an efficient skill set in programme and project management. You will need excellent communication skills to engage with partners, staff, service users and other stakeholders to support the development of integrated models of care services strategies and associated delivery plans. You will have considerable experience of meeting performance targets and you will have a professional and resourceful approach. You should be able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines within a fast paced and demanding environment.
