Retail Banking Sales & Service
Provides the organizational leadership of the branch network investment sales team with the overall objective of increasing BMO’s market share in financial planning and investment products and services within his/her assigned Region through customer acquisition, retention, and increased share of wallet as well as through the quality and consistency of the customer experience. Drives the successful execution of BMO’s financial planning sales strategy, developing and executing a talent management strategy to optimize the Financial Planner sales force and ensuring exceptional collaboration with and quality referrals to the branch team and Wealth Management based on what is in the best interests of our customers. Contributes to and influences the overall strategic direction as a key partner on the Regional leadership team and a critical collaborator with the P&BB Headquarters team, assisting with the development, delivery, prioritization and implementation of business, technology, sales and service, and people strategies and plans to optimize channel delivery and enhance the customer experience. Works collaboratively with distribution partners in both P&BB and WM to optimize the market opportunity for investment sales growth within the targeted customer base, maximize growth, and deliver a great customer experience. Represents the Bank both externally and internally as an expert resource, responsible for representing the Bank in Divisional media, within Divisional government circles, and in local Divisions internally. Maintains the required internal control standards, including adherence to audit, regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
- Leads a Financial Planning team within an assigned region to maximize the investment sales market share growth, customer retention and penetration through the flawless execution of the P&BB Investment Sales Strategy including the delivery of a consistent, great customer experience and influencing the development of revisions to the P&BB Investment Sales Strategy over a 2-3 year time frame.
- Reviews progress to plans and develops, communicates, delegates, and actively participates in the implementation of actions necessary to correct internal and external issues affecting the ability to meet annual business plan goals. Provides reliable forecasts and escalate significant issues as appropriate.
- Ensures the effective delivery of national initiatives and programs through establishing the appropriate context, setting direction for subordinates by providing relevant information, establishing goals and setting limits and ensuring approved business objectives and targets of subordinates are achieved.
- Optimizes available resources, including making required trade-off decisions pertaining to deployment of resources and creating sound business cases to request additional resources
- Contributes to and influences the overall strategic direction as a key partner on the Regional senior leadership team. This includes assisting with the development, prioritization and implementation of business, technology, sales and service, and people strategies and plans to optimize channel delivery and enhance the customer experience in Investment Sales.
- Assesses both the competition and market opportunities on a regular basis to identify strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats. Makes recommendations to Regional leadership, and HQ partners as appropriate
- Establishes priorities and leads subordinates in the development of business, sales and service, and people strategies within the Regional sales context and prescribed limits.
- Ensures optimal alignment of Regional Financial Planning strategies within the Region.
- Maintains effective communication within the with key stakeholders to ensure strategies and tactics are optimized
- Leads major change initiatives in support of business strategies and ensures the successful implementation.
- Builds and sustains a team of subordinates who are capable of delivering the sales and service, operational and risk management performance required for the Region. Establishes goals, plans and assignments for each subordinate and provides coaching and training as required to assist in the achievement of the plan.
- Maintains a talent mindset and proactively engages in the search for local talent that will enhance the effectiveness, proficiency and productiveness of the team.
- Applies the Bank’s performance management system to subordinates, including establishing goals and objectives, assessing skill/knowledge gaps, allocating resources to achieve objectives and close gaps, assessing personal effectiveness and reviewing and recommending base and variable pay.
- Contributes personally to the Bank’s business objectives through direct market intervention by way of joint sales calls with subordinates, establishing a personal referral network and a variety of business development activities.
- Establishes and enhances the Bank’s profile in the community by participating in worthwhile business and community activities and seeking out and creating opportunities to promote products and services of all Banking Groups. This includes public speaking, presentations, industry events, customer events, employee events, community events, etc.
- Represents the Bank in the Regional business community (customers, industry associations, government, etc.) and plays an active governance role on community boards, as required. Establishes and fosters a positive relationship with members of the local media (consistent with Corporate Communication protocols) to ensure that the bank receives favourable coverage.
- Develops and maintains a Regional information network and leverages knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of the business.
- Participates in industry forums and conferences to keep apprised of all industry trends, competitive insights, products and services. Provides feedback to the Regional sales and HQ leadership as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively and effectively with internal partners to leverage sales and referral opportunities to improve share of wallet, acquire new customers, retain existing customers and provide the full financial service offering to customers.
- Ensures effective control, monitoring and reporting procedures are in place to ensure in compliance with internal and external requirement.
- Manages risk and minimize losses through audit, monitoring and controls reports and functions, ensuring compliance requirements, audits and verifications are completed in accordance with Bank Policies and Procedures and regulatory, legal and ethical requirements.
- Monitors controllable non-interest expenses and revenues of the team’s profitability to ensure targets are met or exceeded. Monitor and escalate aspects not under direct managerial control.
- Qualifications:
- Post secondary education
- 5+ years experience in sales and a demonstrated history of successful business development activities including ability to network in external markets
- Experience managing a large direct sales team

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
