You will serve as a Marine Transportation Specialist and be responsible for providing detailed technical advice and assistance on the development, applicability, interpretation, and enforcement of international standards and treaties, and domestic laws, regulations, and policy affecting the marine safety program.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Conducting comprehensive studies and analyses and preparing regulatory proposals and changes in final draft form.
- Evaluating requests for exemptions or waiver of regulatory requirements involving comprehensive analysis of many varied proposals.
- Planning and conducting outreach activities with Federal, State, and Local Government Agencies.
- Participating in and potentially leading the development of rulemaking documents by providing technical expertise in the areas of subject matter expertise, project management, administrative procedures, and regulatory process requirements.
- Participating in and leading the development of policy documents by drafting documentation and providing technical expertise in the areas of subject matter expertise, project management, administrative procedures, and process requirements.
- Examining annual authorizing legislation and other legislative proposals and acts.
