Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow (ST6+/Senior) in Oncology (Gynaecologic Medical Oncology) with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is available to commence ASAP for 12 months in the first instance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Physician with Oncology experience wishing to extend and deepen knowledge of Gynae Medical Oncology and clinical trials. Extensive experience will be gained in trial design and the management of phase I to III clinical trials, and in the facilitation of translational research at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. We run a diverse trials portfolio spanning the entire range of systemic treatment options (cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted, biological and immunotherapy agents and viral based cancer therapies).

The post is set up to support both research and clinical duties. In order to maintain clinical experience, post holder will be expected to attend outpatient clinics, sub-specialty meetings, and ward rounds as well as support delivery of care to patients receiving treatment in clinical trials.

This post is suitable for Trainees after specialist Oncology training (or equivalent) with PhD (or equivalent).

This post would ideally suit applicants who have CCT in Clinical or Medical Oncology specialist training with evidence of participation in clinical or translational research and post-graduate research degree (PhD or equivalent).

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

• Lead innovative research in molecular biology to uncover fundamental mechanisms related to genetic and protein functions in cancer.
• Investigate interactions between modified bases and proteins, focusing on their impact on genome functions like transcription and chromatin organisation.
• Develop new techniques to study the dynamics of modified bases and their binding proteins, utilising chemical and genetic approaches.
• Analyse genetic/genomic and other omics data sets to provide insights and use these to design future experiments.
• Explore genetic targets for synthetic lethality opportunities in cancer.
• Manage your own research projects while collaborating with others, ensuring meticulous record-keeping and resource management.
• Share your findings through presentations and publications, and help to mentor PhD students.

What you'll need to succeed
As well as strong communication and organisational skills, you should have:

• A PhD (or be nearing completion) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer genomics, or related fields, or significant equivalent experience
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including RNA/DNA analysis, PCR, protein analysis, and western blotting.
• Advanced cloning skills, with experience in genetic engineering, vector construction, and CRISPR/Cas9 systems.
• Expertise in recombinant protein design and expression, utilising systems like E. coli, along with purification methods such as FPLC and mass spectrometry.
• Familiarity with genomic technologies like ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and single-cell methods, preferably within oncology research, though this is not essential.

It would be an advantage to have good data analysis skills and experience using programming / scripting languages such as Python and/or R, along with tools like MATLAB and Bioconductor, however training can be provided.

We are seeking to appoint a Key Stage 3 coordinator to play a key role in the leadership of the Science department. We are seeking an outstanding practitioner to support the Director of Learning in continuing to move the department forward building on significant improvements in recent years. The role would be an excellent position for a practitioner seeking to take on curriculum responsibility as they progress towards positions in middle and senior leadership under the guidance of an excellent subject leader. Candidates would be well supported to developed their curriculum, pedagogical and leadership skillsets in a school keen to develop leaders of education.
