An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic nurse leader to lead and manage the Vaccine and Trials Team and Infection Research Team.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and is a one year fixed-term contract that can be applied to as a secondment.

The successful candidate will be an expert research nurse with proven leadership skills, flexibility and excellent organisational skills. You will be supported by Head of research Workforce, R&D leads and leaders within the directorate as well a network of Research Matrons and Managers.

The post holder will lead and line manage 2 research teams, one in the Directorate of Infection and the other is the Vaccine and Trials Team within the Directorate of Research and Development.

University College London Hospitals (UCLH) undertakes world-class research across many specialities including early phase, cancer, haematology, and neurology. As a senior research pharmacy technician (or Science Manufacturing Technician) you will be part of the pharmacy clinical trials team facilitating this research. Your key role is to set up new studies, maintain current and historical studies, and oversee the storage and receipt of clinical trials medicines. You will also be an important part of the team providing a high-quality dispensary service to our patients.


The postholder will acquire a broad overview of injectable research medicines, research delivery, dispensary management, and research governance, therefore would suit anyone with an interest in these areas. Prior experience of clinical trials or hospital pharmacy is desirable but not required.

Ideally you will be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician with 1-2 years’ experience although all training and support will be provided by our supportive team including our education & training lead. Those wishing to enrol on formal training courses can do so via external (on application) and in-house learning & development programmes.

• Manage Research Projects: Design and deliver high-quality research projects, including evaluations, using robust quantitative and qualitative methods.
• Collaborate & Advise: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to clarify research objectives, build research capacity, and promote evidence-informed practice.
• Disseminate Findings: Produce accessible reports and presentations, sharing learning through conferences, seminars, and other events.
• Champion Children's Voices: Ensure children's experiences and perspectives are central to research activities.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience managing applied social research projects, including evaluations.
• Experience in designing and conducting research with children and young people.
• Experience of analysing and interpreting complex datasets to inform decision-making.
• Strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative methodologies and research ethics.

About you

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Hold the relevant Computing/ICT qualification (PGCE, B. Ed or BA Hons) with UK Qualified Teaching Status (QTS/QTLS).
• Be a confident communicator, alongside excellent behaviour management, and can build good rapport with students and fellow staff.
• Deliver exciting and engaging Computing/ICT lessons using your own initiative and have a good knowledge of the national curriculum.
• To monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils’ learning in the subject
• To follow school departmental policies for the assessing, recording and reporting of pupil achievement using these to set achievable targets for further improvement in the subject across the range of abilities
• To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment for the learning of Computer Science and to have a significant input into the development of Computer Science teaching in the school.
• To ensure levels of discipline conducive to learning
• To work as part of a team in the teaching organisation and administration of the department
