General Responsibilities

• Confidently manage the function's functional mailboxes in line with agreed processes / protocols ensuring all work is completed in a timely manner. • Carry out project and business change coordination and support tasks and maintain registers, trackers and associated documentation.

We are seeking an experienced science professional who will provide a comprehensive efficient and effective range of technical support to meet the needs of the department. We have an exciting opportunity to be part of a definitive trial examining the effectiveness of oral nutritional supplement use in care homes.

We seek to appoint a Post Doctoral Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary research team for the REFRESH (nutRition intervEntions For malnouRished oldEr adultS in care homes) trial. This is a large NIHR funded randomised controlled trial examining oral nutritional supplements in care homes over four years.

The trial is a multi-university collaboration led by Professor Mary Hickson and Professor Jane Murphy of Bournemouth University. It is supported by the PenCTU and includes collaborators from the University of Exeter (statistics, health economics and community geriatric expertise), University of Coventry (dietetic expertise), University of Southampton (geriatric expertise), as well as care home managers and public representatives.

Your main tasks will be to recruit, set-up and initiate sites (care homes), maintain excellent working relationships with the care homes, manage the three field workers (to help with site initiation), develop online training for care home staff, and manage the day-to-day running of the trial. You will be supported by a Research Assistant and line managed by Professor Hickson.

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals with a PhD or equivalent within the field of nutrition and dietetics. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, clinical research experience with older adults, and ideally will have worked in the care home sector. You will also have an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to work to tight deadlines and be comfortable and resilient working under pressure. A knowledge of training other professionals and using online educational platforms will be an advantage.

The role will be based at the University of Plymouth, recruiting in Devon & Cornwall, Wessex and the Birmingham area with an opportunity to discuss a hybrid online and in person working pattern. You will be required to travel regularly to Plymouth and/or Bournemouth for meetings, as well as visiting care homes in all the regions listed above that may not be accessible by public transport.

Supporting the Chief Pharmacist in ensuring that effective medicines systems operate throughout the Trust. To be the pharmacy lead responsible for research and development of clinical trials. Reviewing the feasibility of proposed clinical trials considering the pharmacy aspect. Oversight of expenditure and reimbursement for the pharmacy team for clinical trials (Research and Development (R&D)). As a clinical pharmacist within the trials team, the post-holder will ensure that all pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials validation including digital systems are built in accordance with good clinical practice (GCP); good manufacturing practice (GMP); statutory national and international standards; and clinical need. Support the coordination of local response in a timely manner, working closely with the: clinical and research teams; Pharmacy; Sponsors; and R&D department.

Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - North Territory

Contract: 12 Months

About This Role:

You will be providing crucial medical and scientific expertise for a 12-month maternity leave cover. As an MSL, you will play a vital role in understanding disease products while forging valuable partnerships within the medical community and healthcare systems. Your contributions will significantly impact our company's success, both internally and externally, through medical education, scientific exchange, and the gathering of essential medical insights.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establish trust and credibility as an MSL partner by engaging in scientific and medical exchanges with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and stakeholders, dedicating approximately 80% of your time to this activity.
• Develop and maintain relationships with HCPs, ensuring alignment with the field medical plan.
• Participate in various activities, including proactive discussions on relevant disease areas, acting as a technical expert on company products, providing non-product education, and responding to inquiries.
• Clearly and effectively present product data to diverse audiences.
• Contribute to Medical Affairs projects, utilizing extensive knowledge of therapeutic areas and the competitive landscape, as required by the medical manager.
• Engage with customers through face-to-face interactions and virtual/digital channels as needed, splitting your time approximately 50%/50%.
• Collaborate effectively with other internal functions such as sales, marketing, and value & access, as required.
• Operate within regulatory frameworks and uphold compliance with company ethics, procedures, and industry standards at all times.

Candidate:

• Highly accomplished individual with significant expertise in key therapeutic areas, particularly within Medical Affairs.
• Demonstrates excellence in Medical Science Liaison (MSL) roles, showcasing skills such as scientific proficiency, excellent communication abilities across various audiences, and in-depth knowledge of healthcare systems.
• Organized and with a proven track record of excellence in developing and executing field medical plans

Required Skills:

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) required; advanced (MSc, PhD) or clinical degree (pharmacy, nursing, or medical) preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice in relation to medical affairs and promotional activities.
• Substantial experience and demonstrated scientific expertise in key therapeutic areas (Neurology, Immunology) within Medical Affairs.
• Demonstrated excellence in MSL roles, including strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, as well as a track record of developing and maintaining peer-to-peer relationships with key medical experts, executing field medical plans, and generating relevant therapy area insights.
• Desirable skills include understanding of drug lifecycle management, UK healthcare systems, local regulatory compliance, leadership/coaching, and project management expertise.
