The Inspector General's mission is to conduct independent and objective audits, investigations, and evaluations; prevent and detect waste, fraud, and abuse; promote economy, effectiveness, and efficiency; review pending legislation and regulation; and keep the agency head and Congress fully and currently informed. The incumbent serves as the FTC's Inspector General (IG) and administers and supervises a program of audits, reviews, and investigations designed to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and mismanagement in the programs and operations carried out by the Commission.

As the principal advisor and consultant to the Commission and Chair regarding the IG program, the incumbent designs a strategy that will assist in maintaining an atmosphere within the FTC that promotes the highest standard of integrity and accountability by ensuring a credible and impartial FTC IG system. The IG directs a broad and comprehensive inspector general program by providing executive leadership, coordination, strategic planning, and control over management of the OIG to assure balanced, comprehensive support and guidance of office-wide operations. The IG also provides and issues comprehensive and defensible audit reports to the Chair for corrective action with respect to audit findings of deficiencies and for changes in agency policies, procedures, practices, and operations based on audit findings; and directs the preparation of, and issues audit reports on, matters involving agency policies, procedures, regulations, and other directives.

In addition, the IG provides leadership and direct and indirect supervision for the activities of the personnel and staff consisting of attorneys, and audit and investigative specialists in accomplishing the OIG's goals and objectives. Ensures management techniques and policies are based on sound organization, position, management, and federal employment practices. As the Director, Identity Assurance you are responsible for providing executive leadership and direction in the establishment and maintenance of a Service-wide strategy that ensures consistent oversight of all authentication and authorization needs across IRS functions and programs, ensuring the establishment of a secure environment for taxpayers to interact with the IRS.

As the Director Identity Assurance your duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Serves as consultant and principal advisor to senior management on all matters relating to identity assurance needs across IRS functions and programs. • Partners with other federal agencies, private industry, and international organizations to stay current with new technologies and assess trends and related practices in the identity assurance industry and evolving patterns in taxation. • Information Management and Documentation: Design, develop, document, deploy, maintain, and support technology-based solutions to modernize and integrate the processes and systems for file and data management, work distribution, quality assurance, and statistical reporting.
