Assist the Head BMS in the production of the annual Departmental Training Plan. Co-ordinate the production of training and guidance notes that support Standard Operating Procedures and the completion of the IBMS Certificate of Competence Portfolio. Technical Service In collaboration with the Training Officer, develops, maintains and organises the IQA programme for the General Bacteriology & Virology departments including: Preparing spot tests Capturing data, collating and analysing results Recording and investigating non-conformances including root cause analysis Identifying training needs and liaising with the Training Officer Monitoring and recording performance and trend analyses Preparing monthly reports and communicating results at staff meetings. JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title: Face Fit Tester Pay Band: 3 Hours: 37.5hrs per week Contract: Permanent Location / Department: Countywide Infection Control Team Responsible to: Fit Test Coordinator Accountable to: Infection Control Lead Key Working Relationships: Internal: Wards/Departments PFI Partners Infection Prevention & Control Team Procurement Department Technical Services Facilities Team External: Suppliers Risk Assessment: This post involves frequent contact with equipment. Manual handling of inanimate, often bulky equipment, daily use of VDU screen, use of cleaning fluids and there will be an expectation to work at different Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust sites to cover service need. Job Purpose: Fit testing is a method for checking that a specific model and size of FFP3 mask (tight-fitting mask) matches the wearers facial features and seals adequately to the wearers face. It will also help to identify unsuitable masks which should not be used. The performance of tight-fitting masks depends on achieving a good contact between the wearers skin and the face seal of the mask. Peoples faces vary significantly in shape and size so it is unlikely that one particular model or size of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) mask will fit everyone. Inadequate fit will significantly reduce the protection provided to the wearer. Any reduction in protection may lead to immediate or long term ill health or can even put the RPE wearers life in danger. The post holder will work as part of the Infection under the supervision of the Face fit co-ordinator. They will work closely with the Infection Prevention & Control and Team (IPC) as well as the Procurement and Supply Chain team and the Development and Education Team. They will ensure that staff are individually face fitted to masks providing respiratory protection against harmful pathogens. The post holder will be responsible for fit testing to ensure masks that are either re-useable or disposable fit the face of an individual. Full training will be given for both the qualitative and quantitative fit testing methods. The post holder will also play a key role in educating staff on the best practice of donning and doffing FFP3 PPE. The post holder will work independently on a day-to-day basis. All sites will need to be covered with one other Fit Tester during the course of a week and it could be that visiting various locations at those hospitals is required depending on need. The post holder will be responsible for arranging and collecting a PortaCount machine from IPC and setting up the allocated room in preparation for testing. Where required, the post holder will need to refer to IPC for alternatives for respiratory protection where fit testing is unsuccessful and update records accordingly. If there is a lack of face fit testing bookings, then the staff member may be asked to assist within other departments of the Infection Prevention & Control team or Mattress store. Mattress store duties include cleaning the mattresses using PPE and chemicals, collection and delivery of mattresses. Other duties may include education of trust staff regarding hand hygiene competencies and audit of environment and practices. Key Duties: To ensure Personal Protective Equipment is worn and used according to Trust policy. Conduct face fit tests on staff that are required to wear FFP3 masks, specifically: Being clear on the face fit testing process and being able to describe this to staff. To ensure that the mask that is being fitted is a good fit before conducting the test by assisting in fitting the mask ensuring a good seal. Directing the member of staff through the face fit exercises. Recording the result of any face fit test. Explaining to the member of staff which mask they have passed on and when they should book another fit test, if required. Where no fit is achieved advising staff on alternatives and how to access them. To actively support the Fit Test Coordinator in implementing and evaluating the Face Fit Test strategy and action plan. Monitor and maintain stock levels of face masks and consumables Clean and maintain equipment according to manufacturers guidance. Communication Establish and maintain relationships with the Fit Test Coordinator and all members of staff and colleagues affiliated with Face Fit Testing. Communicate effectively with others, recognising that there may be a requirement to utilise alternative methods of communication to overcome barriers to understanding. Participate in discussions and team meetings, as required, in relation to the face fit testing process and PPE. Highlight failure of particular masks to the IPC Support Officer. Planning and Organisational Skills Plan and organise with the support of the IPC support officers workload in line with face fit testing appointment system. Make amendments to the appointment system for face fit testing, as required, and report any issues to the Fit Test Coordinator. Physical Skills Standard keyboard skills required for data entry. Developed physical skills required to operate testing equipment. Lifting of equipment for transport Will be required to transport equipment to various sites and wards/rooms. The Deputy DIPC, working within the wider Corporate Team, will have significant Trust wide responsibility and will be accountable for the strategic, operational and budgetary management of the Infection Prevention (Corporate) Team. The post holder is the lead nursing/midwifery advisor on infection prevention across the Trust. The post holder will undertake a full portfolio of director responsibilities as agreed and delegated by the Executive Director (Chief Nursing Officer/ DIPC) and will be responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive and strong professional leadership, guidance advice, support and direction in relation to infection, prevention and control to the Nursing and Allied Health Professionals. The post holder will have significant Trust wide responsibility with respect to developing, leading and directing the Trusts programme to reduce healthcare-associated infections as established in national trajectories and locally as established in the Quality Improvement Strategy (QIS). The strong leadership, support and the development of the Infection Prevention Control Team in association with the Lead Infection Prevention Control Microbiologist/Infection Control clinicians is a central core function of this role as the DDIPC. The post holder will lead (on behalf of the DIPC/ CNO) effective health economy working and the joint interface with primary care and the public health agenda, driving improvement for joint improvement trajectories and monitoring the commissioning targets for Trust reports. The DDIPC will support and drive nursing research opportunities and oversee the delivery of a robust IPC education programme for all Trust staff both clinical and non-clinical. Collaborating with the DIPC, Deputy Chief Nursing Officers, Divisional Directors of Nursing/Midwifery and Matrons, and the Divisional triumpherates, the DDIPC will provide strategic leadership and expertise to support the review of themes and trends from incidents, performance metrics, infection rates and RCA outputs, which will inform the teams service objectives, and research and education strategy. The DDIPC will be the Trust wide lead for decontamination as required in the health and care act, liaising with facilities and estates leads to ensure safe systems, processes and governance are appropriately established and maintained. The post holder will also provide the professional lead regarding water safety and ventilation. The post holder will be expected to provide the strategic leadership across all of these areas ensuring on behalf of the DIPC/CNO that all statutory requirements are met and associated actions are delivered, working with Estates, Facility leads and Lead Microbiologists who are experts in their field on these agendas. Responsibility for the strategic, operational and budgetary management of the infection prevention services across the Trust. Leads on and accountable for the governance and strategic leadership on infection prevention control across the three hospital sites to work collaboratively with operational and support teams to ensure the risk of infection to patients, staff and visitors is minimised whilst ensuring patient flow and capacity is kept at an optimal level. The post holder will identify and share best practice and lead on internal peer review and where external benchmarking and horizon scanning highlights the requirement for innovation in working models, the post holder will have a key responsibility in reviewing and developing IPC practice. The Deputy DIPC will be professionally and managerially responsible and accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer. Links with the Corporate Management Team will be developed through the CNO to deliver the overall service objectives. Head of Infection Prevention will be responsible for: Lead Commissioning arrangements for the prevention, investigation and surveillance of infection for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Commissioning Organisations. To provide strategic vision and leadership in the specialist field of infection prevention and control (IPC) Implementation and monitoring of a county wide Infection Prevention Strategic Plan with specific outcomes related to continually improving clean, safe care at all levels across the system. Influencing a wide range of practitioners and organisations through collaborative and partnership working at a senior level on a local and regular basis. Provide expert advice to the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and interpret National Policy. Represent infection prevention and control strategically within the ICB and externally, to promote Infection prevention and Control as an integral part of patient quality safety and experience.
