Buyer - Indirect Purchasing - Automotive Manufacturing

Responsibilities

• As the Buyer your primary responsibility will be to support the Purchasing Manager in performing all purchasing tasks including; planning, optimisation, supplier liaison and negotiation as dictated by the business requirements.
• A key part of the role will be supplier nomination, you will support and propose recommendations for local and Group suppliers to ensure that nominated suppliers are of the highest standard and comply with all Group process, procedures, policies, and guidelines.
• You will be responsible for tender processes within the assigned commodity. This will include identifying and analysing business requirements, preparing tenders and issuing them.
• Accountability for the overall portfolio of suppliers within your area of activity, including improvement measures, supplier circles, supplier failure recovery / actions and managing any political or economic consequences. In this you will ensure that suppliers are managed and coordinated to the operational and economic benefit of the company.
• You will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the purchasing systems including directing all purchasing related queries from the business to the relevant department as well as managing contracts, purchasing records and databases.
• By managing the purchasing process from supplier to end-user, you will set up and maintain Contract Agreements in all systems, review purchase requests and check compliance with Group Guidelines before converting requests to purchase orders.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE.

• Previous experience within a purchasing related environment, ideally within automotive or aerospace manufacturing, or related.
• Previous experience in facilities procurement - indirect procurement experience also considered
• An in-depth knowledge and understanding of purchasing systems including SAP & SRM
• CIPS beneficial
• Comprehensive knowledge of procurement techniques
• A high level of numeracy with the ability to interrogate systems to produce relevant data
• Familiarity with the key elements of Purchase Orders, Contracts and Tenders together with their associated processes.

• Develop, implement, and manage procurement policies, procedures, and best practices, promoting standardisation and compliance across the organisation.
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers that align with quality, cost, and delivery expectations, negotiating favourable terms and contracts.
• Monitor market trends, industry developments, and technological advancements to proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
• Lead supplier performance evaluations, addressing issues and fostering strong, collaborative relationships to drive mutual success.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to the procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.
• Collaborate with finance to establish and manage procurement budgets, tracking expenditures and reporting on cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.

The ideal candidate:

• Understanding of end-to-end planning and supply chain management
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials and quality control standards
• End to end exposure of procurement bid proposals, contract negotiations, and value add
• Previous industry experience within a manufacturing environment
• Excellent communication skills with the gravitas and confidence to lead on large negotiations and scope strategies.
• Degree or MCIPS (preferred)

Salary up to £65,000
Based across 2 sites in South Buckinghamshire and Northants with also options to be home based - the exact make up of working week will be down to this individual to demonstrate where their time is best spent
