About the Role:
As a Purchasing Assistant, you will manage the inward supply of a portfolio of production commodities and non-production goods and services. Your responsibilities will include preparing and negotiating contracts, supporting the business plan implementation, and acting as the Purchasing team member for a specific sector of the business.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Support Manufacturing Requirements: Interpret production plans and forecasts to meet business manufacturing needs.
• Develop Source Plans: Create strategies for specific areas of spend, aligned with the overall Purchasing strategy and business plans. Lead cross-functional teams in developing these plans.
• Sector Responsibility: Act as the Purchasing team representative for a business sector, participating in new product development, product launches, and other relevant activities. Share information with the team and manage their input.
• Budget Preparation: Forecast future prices based on market analysis, agree budgets with the Purchasing Manager, and monitor price performance versus budget.
• Reporting: Report price performance and relevant market issues to interested departments and company Directors through the Purchasing Report.
• Continuous Improvement: Lead projects resulting from Supply Agreements to enhance our processes and performance.

The Ideal Candidate:
Experience: Minimum of 1 years in a purchasing role within a manufacturing environment
Skills: Demonstrable experience with modern purchasing techniques and ERP environments. Proven materials and services purchasing experience.

General Description: We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Buyer to join our purchasing team. The successful candidate will ensure all direct and indirect materials are available on time and purchased at the most cost-effective price. Your success will ultimately be judged on supplier performance and your contribution to the business bottom line through effective pricing and material availability.

Main Duties:
" Source and place orders for contract and non-contract items using appropriate MRP reports and manual requisitions.
" Negotiate lower pricing whenever possible.
" Maintain supplier details on the MRP system and review supplier performance.
" Monitor supplier performance and develop improvement programs.
" Maintain minimum stock levels against MRP requirements.
" Adjust component MRP parameters to achieve on-time availability and appropriate batch sizes.
" Progress chase outstanding purchase orders in liaison with Production Control.
" Assist Stores personnel when required, including stocktaking.
" Assist Production Control when required to progress work through the factory.
" Assist in other areas of the company as required against reasonable requests.

Ancillary Duties:
" Carry out tasks and duties as required from time to time by Senior Management.
Qualifications and Experience:
" A qualification in Purchasing (CIPS) is desirable but not essential.
" Willingness to obtain a CIPS qualification through out-of-hours or distance learning if not already possessed.
" Minimum 3 years' experience using MRP/ERP/SAP or similar systems, with competence in placing and reviewing purchase orders and updating parts and supplier/customer data.
" Experience in supplier or customer management.
" Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
" Experience working in a manufacturing environment; experience in a marine manufacturing business is an advantage.
" Good level of Maths and English - preferably 5 above in GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
" Demonstrate a professional and entrepreneurial attitude to purchasing.
" Excellent communication and assertiveness skills.
" Flexible and reliable.
" Self-motivated and able to multi-task.
" Ability to work under pressure to meet multiple project deadlines.
