• Reporting to OMHSP on Veterans who attempted or died by suicide and sending OMHSP requested data, which is used to determine characteristics and risks associated with these groups of Veterans
• Ensuring that medical centers have established a High-Risk for Suicide List (HRSL) of Veterans and a process for establishing Patient Record Flag Category 1 - High Risk for Suicide (HRS-PRFs).
• Thorough knowledge of the program objectives to ensure that actions taken are appropriate.
• Disseminate resources and implement effective, evidence based strategies for reducing incidence of suicide and suicide behavior.

Provides clinical case management and therapeutic intervention services to assigned Veterans.

Provides evidence based therapeutic interventions in encounters with Veterans to promote recovery and successful transition to community living and care. Interventions will be specifically delivered in treatment modalities for addictions, substance abuse and dependence, complex mental health conditions, and PTSD.

Designs, plans and conducts various psycho-social educational classes and process groups related to helping the Veterans understand mental health and their needs and the impact on them and their whole life system of support.

Provides clinical services to Veterans admitted to the RRTP, which includes DCHV (Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans) programming, addictions treatment, mental health treatment, and PTSD treatment.

The incumbent is responsible for completing the following duties/responsibilities:

• Conducts psychosocial assessments to determine needs of Veterans and family members.
• Participates in the treatment planning process with other disciplines.
• Coordinates and refers care with other disciplines.
• Provides individual, family and group counseling to support treatment and recovery of Veterans experiencing addictions, complex mental health conditions, and PTSD.
• Provides consultation/education to Veterans and families on community resources, advance directives and VA benefits.
• Acts as liaison between VA and community resources, to include marketing and public relation duties as needed.
• Provides case management to Veterans. Engages family and other supports to promote recovery for Veterans.
• Assists the Veteran and family in understanding contributing factors to problems, discusses solutions, and encourages lasting changes to reduce stressors.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Protects the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property;
• Performs various law enforcement and administrative functions throughout the department;
• Manages, supervises and coordinates the Police Service law enforcement activities for a designated assigned area;
• Serves as a watch commander or administrative lieutenant at the geographic area level;
• Inspects personnel, facilities, and tactics for safety and/or training needs;
• Establishes priorities to coordinate, plan, organize and complete work;

The RRTP LPMHC serves as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. In addition, the clinician will provide direct care, assessment, and treatment where indicated and as such functions as a treatment team member.

Diagnoses mental disorders, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for maintenance of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies. The incumbent may be involved limitedly in program evaluation and/or research functions.

Has a generic understanding of social dynamics and use a wide range of treatment modalities, including crisis intervention, individual case work, group work, patient education, confrontation, supportive therapy, family therapy, discharge planning, and knowledge of aftercare treatment resources. The treatment modality shall be consistent with the needs, goals, resident preferences and objectives of each case.

Obtains a thorough working knowledge of aftercare rehabilitation community treatment resources and makes appropriate referrals. The incumbent makes every effort to link patients to the appropriate resource and to implement the aftercare plan. The incumbent serves as a liaison between the residential setting and other VA and community resources. The incumbent advises significant others about community resources available to them as well as providing information about VA programs and resources.

Accountable for timely documentation, proper clinical file recording, case work services rendered, exploration surveys with beneficiaries and the provision of service summaries.

Conducts biopsychosocial intake assessments to determine needs of Veterans and family members.

Is an active participant in the treatment planning process with other RRTP disciplines (e.g., medicine, pharmacy, Chaplaincy, Peer Support, vocational rehabilitation, recreational rehabilitation, nursing) and will develop individual treatment plans with the resident.

Participates in discharge planning with other disciplines and will be responsible for ensuring that discharge plans are executed in a manner that is timely and appropriate.

Provides individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate.

Provides consultation/education to Veterans and families on community resources and VA benefits.

Acts as a consultant to other team/staff members.

Acts as liaison between VA and community resources, to include marketing and public relation duties as needed.

Provides case management to Veterans and families, as needed, throughout the continuum of care.

• Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services.

This is a full-time Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor position within the Fargo VA Health Care System. This position is located at the Minot Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). LPMHCs diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological intake evaluations, and treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities including individual and group treatment (psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• The incumbent works with Veterans who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems.
• Completes thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families. The incumbent must be able to utilize this assessment in facilitating the Veteran's maximum use of treatment for attainment of the highest level of independence that is possible and practicable. Telehealth equipment will be utilized to deliver group and individual services, as well as education, through a variety of devices including computer, telephone, home clinical video telehealth.
• Actively participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and actively participate through collaboration with Veterans and interdisciplinary treatment team members in the development and implementation of treatment goals and interventions.
• Possesses a working knowledge and experience in use of mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and evidence-based treatments, including acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses.
• Independently implements treatment modalities, provide educational classes, and/or therapeutic groups for Veterans and families.
• Provides consultation to other treatment team members regarding psychosocial needs of Veterans and/or their families and the impact of the identified psychosocial problems on the Veteran's health care planning and compliance with treatment.
• Maintains knowledge of Veteran's benefits and services, community resources, and process for making appropriate referrals to community and other governmental programs or agencies.
• Completes clinical documentation according to MHSL and healthcare center standards. Documentation is clinically appropriate and thorough, and demonstrates the components of treatment considered the standard of care.
• Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing with people from varied backgrounds.
