As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-11, you will perform the following duties:

1) Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, power shovels, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, semi-trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as a regular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems to include internal combustion engines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems and controls, cross drive or similar multi-system transmissions and a variety of intricate fuel injection systems. Makes repairs and modifications to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators, generators/alternators, brake cylinders, etc., for use or placement in systems for which they were not specifically designed. Improvises work when standard procedures do not apply.

2) Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems anddiagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visualand auditory checks, uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers,voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools. Utilizes embeddeddiagnostics in equipment and a wide variety of specialized original equipment manufacturer systemanalyzers in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repair. Determines what adjustmentsmay be necessary to complete work orders, and whether any additional repairs other than thosespecified or indicated on the work order are necessary.

3) Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies,components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Makes the appropriate repairs, overhaul,or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures, and improvisesrepair techniques when standard procedures are not available. Reassembles engines and othersystems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in vehicles and equipment as necessary. Makes adjustments and repairs to electrical and suspension systems. Repairs equipment with a variety of interconnected systems to include state of the art electrical and electronic, fuel injection, interconnected gear reduction, multiple engine, and similarly complex systems. Improvises, substitutes, or alters components or parts to fit into systems for which the items were not specially designed or finds other ways to correct defects when existing methods and procedures do not give desired results.

4) Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees within the team. Assists lower grade mechanics in performing major repair work on interconnected complex systems such as electrical, air and hydraulic systems, complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems that use specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems, complex fuel injection systems and other similar complex systems. May provide Field and limited Sustainment maintenance at unit locations as part of a "contact team."

5) Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. Performs operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and performs other preventive maintenance operations as required. Inspects supported equipment prior to use during Inactive Duty Training (IDT) and Annual Training (AT), to ensure that it is functioning properly. May inspect in-process repair work of lower graded repairer to ensure equipment is being repaired in accordance with pertinent requirements. May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT). Instructs operator/crew in the maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to supported units when requested.

6) Performs electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems requiring extensive training on specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems.

7) Performs other duties as assigned.

What you will do

As a Johnson Controls Security Service Technician, you will alleviate concerns the customer may have regarding a security system. You will advise customers and the customer care center of the status of systems and processes inspections. You will inspect fire systems, burglar alarm systems, CCTV, and access.

How you will do it

• Locate all devices and make sure they are in working order.
• Readjust equipment, repair, or replace inoperative equipment, and test for operation.
• Prepare inspection reports and create tickets for major repairs.
• Responsible for the inspection of commercial Security/Fire Alarm/CCTV/Card Access systems.

What we look for  

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Experience with Fire Alarm, security, CCTV, card access
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices
• Experience inspecting, repairing, and programming fire alarm panels and fire suppression systems Computer literate.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
• Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs
• Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times
• Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly
• Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements
• Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test
• Retain any licenses that are required by National, State, and Local codes - Oregon state low voltage electrical license

 Preferred

• 2 years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems.
• NICET II certification.

What you will do: 

Service Technicians diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on card access, CCTV, burglar alarm systems, electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.  

How you will do it:

• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices and bulletins, modification notices, etc. to repair equipment.  
• Service, troubleshoot, and install card access, CCTV, and burglar alarm systems.  
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.  

• Exhibit effective customer service skills by consistently communicating with staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction. 
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as smart phones and laptop computers.  
• Obtain customer signature upon completed service call assignment.  
• Available for on-call emergency service.  
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

What we look for:  

Required 

• 2-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
• 4 years documented experience with card access and CCTV. 
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices. 
• Experience installing, inspecting, repairing, and programming card access and CCTV. 
• Fire alarm experience is a PLUS! 
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals. 
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. 
• Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs. 
• Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc. 
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements. 
• Overnight travel may be required. 
• Demonstrate a high level of customer service. 
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs. 
• Ability to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures. 
• Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly. 
• Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements. 
• Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test. 
• Retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes. 
• Knowledge of applicable NFPA standards. 

Preferred: 

• NICET III preferred in the subfield of Special Hazard Systems or Level III in subfield of Fire Alarm. 

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $30.12- $43.36 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)  This position includes a competitive benefits package.
