What you'll be doing;

• Drive, plan and manage daily operations of the maintenance department, servicing both the MRF and the MBT as well as to a lesser extent the Transfer Station, the Weighbridge and the HWRC. This includes driving the timely completion of PPM tasks, the delivery of appropriate corrective maintenance works and the optimised management of breakdowns (reactive maintenance).
  
• Manage and hold accountability for the maintenance budget and costs.
  
• Ensure the sound management of the CMMS
  
• Ensure the sound management of the stock of spare parts.
  
• Fully responsible for H&S of the maintenance team and activities. Strongly contribute to H&S of all operations across the IWMF.
  
• Ensure legal compliance of the site at all times in the area/for the activities under their responsibility.
  
• Fully accountable for all maintenance department staff, circa 10 employees (technicians, fitters mates, graduates and apprentices).
  
• Maintain a high standard of staff performance, quality of work and accountability through coaching, training and development.
  
• Work in harmony with other departments of the plant to ensure robust communication and enhanced operational efficiency, as well as innovative problem solving.
  
• Maintain and develop a portfolio of reliable engineering contractors that bring value for money, covering all the equipment and asset maintenance needs across the plant.
  
• Lead on most of the significant asset improvement projects, improving operations and safety across the plant.
  
• Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders including: contractors, central Technical Direction, equipment and parts manufacturers, industry specialists, and many others.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Performs a variety of repairs, maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Responsible for handling all minor maintenance and repair work on systems, structure, and equipment which can be accomplished within thirty (30) minutes.
• Performs the full range of duties of the laborer position.
• Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials.
• Drives light duty motor vehicles for transporting materials and supplies both on and off the medical center grounds.
• Move and arrange furniture as directed, shovel snow from sidewalks, and collect and transport trash to appropriate disposal sites.
• Proper uses of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions including carpet spotting, shampooing, and extraction.
• Able to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces.
• Aware of various emergency codes and alarms and respond appropriately.
• Possess a variety of skills and knowledge in the maintenance and repair field, including skills in the following trades: carpenter, painter, electrician, equipment mechanic, mason, and plumber.
• Serves as the backup Locksmith.
• Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces locks.
• Operating a computerized system of records.
• Maintains the Key Control system for the facility, issues keys to employees, and clears employees of their key account prior to the employee's departure.
• Repairs, overhauls, modifies, tests, and installs a variety of locking devices found on doors, office furniture, safes, and other secured locations.
• Responsible for safely transporting cargo to its destinations, on public roads, in a full range of traffic conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Location: School of Medicine, Ninewells Hospital

The Respiratory Research group at the University of Dundee specialises in studies into the immunology and microbiology of respiratory diseases such as bronchiectasis, COPD and pneumonia. You will be expected to provide high quality technical assistance to Professor Chalmers and the other members of the research team. As a research technician you will play an important role in studies with direct benefit to patients such as clinical trials and patient cohort studies working alongside other research technicians within the group and overseeing the timely completion of research projects in partnership with the principal investigator, postdoctoral researchers and other research staff.

Core laboratory tasks may include processing biological samples, culture of airway epithelial cells at air liquid interface, microscopy, ELISA, and preparation of cells and biological samples for downstream processing such as flow cytometry and proteomics. You will support the principal investigator, post- doctoral researchers and PhD students as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will work collaboratively with team members to support multiple ongoing research studies where appropriate. You will work with external collaborators and internal department such as the Clinical Research Centre and core facilities to ensure the timely completion of research studies.

We are recruiting for a Grade 5 Research Technician

An opportunity has arisen for a research technician to join us within the Jackson Lab at the University of Dundee. This group will be exploring the role of Apolipoprotein E in Alzheimers Disease with an aim to target this important protein to prevent against Alzheimers Diseases.

You will be expected to provide high quality technical assistance to Dr Rosie Jackson and the other members of the research team. Core tasks will include culture of induced pluripotent stem cells derived astrocytes, HEK 293 cells, and primary astrocytes, and multiple molecular techniques including Maxiprep, ELISA, as well as in house assays of inflammation and protein thermal melt.

You will work with the principal investigator and overseas collaborators, performing laboratory research to a high standard and organising study data. You will work collaboratively with other team members including Postdoctoral fellows and PhD students to develop and validate protocols for sample collection and support curation of samples in long-term storage whilst supporting recruitment and sample collection to newly set-up clinical studies. You will be expected to work with the principal investigator to deliver research studies to a high standard in a timely manner.

• Ability to work to deadlines and to meet milestone targets, with detailed attention to time management and multitasking.

What you'll be doing;
