The Medical Technician is responsible for performance, understanding and following all procedures while performing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes in the following laboratory disciplines: Phlebotomy, Chemistry/Immunology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis and Microbiology. The procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using distinctive and precise manual laboratory techniques as well as elaborate complex integrated automated instrumentation. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Procure specimens from patients.
• Handle, accession, process and evaluate the acceptability of each specimen.
• Ensure correct identity and integrity of specimens throughout the pre-analytical stage.
• Maintain supplies and organize a timely flow of specimens for testing.
• Utilized centrifuges, automated processors, refrigerators and freezers.
• Documents temperatures and records maintenance.
• Review delta checks, patient medical history and previous lab results.
• Documents all quality assurance protocols for each procedure.
• Evaluates the validity of date in relation to the test system.
• Correlated quantitative data with patient data to verify results.
• Performs additional tests to clarify or confirm patient results.

• Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
