MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

• Provide design and construction management services as directed by the Manager of Facilities Engineering. Develops Site LRP Space Strategy.

• May determine the overall energy usage at the entire site (specifically power). Works on CFT to develop Facilities Financial LRP.

• May determine the equipment and processes that primarily contribute toward the utility budget, then strive to keep the utilities below the budget by optimizing the functioning of the operations and processes

What You’ll Work On

• Conduct feasibility studies as directed for projects.

• Write RCE's and implement projects.

• Investigate state of the art equipment being introduced into the market for energy conservation.

• Write specifications and call for bids for best pricing and installation.

• Write RCE for projects and coordinate with Accounting for DCF and post completion audits.

• Select vendor/contractor to do the job after detailed contractor evaluation.

• Coordinate with vendor/contractor and the Facilities Shop for requirements, planning and installation of project through completion, based on manufacturing schedule and least process downtime.

• This position requires a high degree of interaction with all functional managers and operating department managers across the site.

• In order to establish operating parameters, knowledge of the use of manufacturing equipment and the number of shifts being worked is imperative.

• This can only be achieved through constant interaction with the operational managers.

• All operating conditions and environmental specifications required for GMP should be communicated clearly and understood by all concerned.

• The incumbent should have the ability to work closely with the different functional groups/trades in the Facilities Shop to communicate the scope of the work and to arrive at the correct budget and precise schedule for proper interaction and precise execution of the different functional groups.

• The position requires the ability to interact at the Corporate level with all the Corporate Engineering departments.

• At the external level, the position requires effective communication with outside engineering consultants, vendors and contractors.

• All engineering projects need to be communicated extensively with the consultants and vendors for proper costing and scheduling.

• All projects need detailed coordination through planning and implementation. This requires interaction and working with all levels from supervisory to non-exempt personnel.

Required Qualifications :

Education:

• Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline

Experience:

• Minimum 5-7 years of plant engineering experience.

• In depth knowledge of HVAC equipment and its operation. 

• Good working knowledge of power termination, distribution and back-up generation 

• equipment. 

• Overall knowledge of electrical systems. 

• Should possess analytical skills to determine site electrical rate structure and be in a

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Simulator Engineer to join our team based at RAF Benson, working on advanced aviation simulators. This is a lead role in a Team of 13 based at our Helicopter flight training centre at RAF Benson, where you will need to take the lead in the maintenance and repair our 5 Helicopter Flight Simulators where we train RAF pilots to fly Chinook, Merlin and Puma Helicopters.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for product support providing key technical support which include development and demonstration of synthetic training equipment, products and services. This role will involve working with and supporting business development activities closely including solution reviews and proposal generation attending key events to showcase the devices to potential customers.

Due to the unrivalled range of simulators at our training centres across the globe, your role will be technically varied, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide range of the most modern simulators, systems, and equipment to enhance your technical knowledge. At CAE you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of systems to help you develop your technical knowledge.

This role will require you to work the rotating shifts as below;
Early Shift – Monday to Thursday 06:00 – 14:00 and Friday 06:00 – 13:00
Late Shift – Monday to Thursday 14:00 – 22:00 and Friday 13:00 – 20:00

Key Tasks

• To ensure that all work is performed in conjunction with standard operating procedures for the day-to-day operation of the Simulation Training Equipment and provide coaching, assistance and leadership to more junior members of staff

• To supervise the carrying out of Simulator Qualification testing and analyse the results as and when required by the appropriate Authority

• To supervise the site maintenance team on varying shifts

• To make minor software changes at the direction of the customer or Simulator Site Manager

• To prepare the Simulation Training Equipment for daily operation using operational readiness checks

• To load the appropriate exercise scenario and other tasks required to prepare for specific training sessions

• To liaise as necessary with the customer before and after exercises and participate in pilot briefing/debriefing as appropriate

• To provide written reports to the Simulator Site Manager and/or the simulator manufacturer in the event of simulator deficiencies

• To react quickly and decisively to restore failed equipment, including tools and test equipment, support items and computer software

• To perform preventative maintenance support on the Simulation Training Equipment and additional associated equipment according to the respective maintenance manuals and ensure that the maintenance manuals are current

• To monitor system performance and analyse major maintenance difficulties

• To perform all work in accordance with defined safety procedures and Company and contractual standards, processes and procedures including maintaining current and accurate documentation

• To attend meetings as required with the simulator user/customer

• Any other duties as may be required

About you

• Ideally you will hold relevant Technical qualifications as well as have some work experience in an electronic, avionic, or technical field as a technician or similar

• Strong experience in electrical engineering and hardware engineering

• Experience of working with Software (you don’t need to write code)

• Computer literate (PC and/or computer mainframe/architecture)

• Experience in soldering and circuit board repairs preferred

• Some knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and suite

• Practical, analytical mindset with great troubleshooting skills

• High level of communication and teamwork skills

• Experience of Hydraulics is welcome, but not a prerequisite

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the day-to-day operations of the facility(ies) or campus, including custodial, life-safety, engineering, site services, and general maintenance, are implemented and carried out in a manner consistent with C&W policies and client directives

• Manage all contracts to ensure they are reviewed on a regular basis and are bid out as required; verify that invoices match contract pricing

• Supervise all maintenance programs relating to the interior and exterior conditions and appearance of the properties

• Respond positively and promptly to requests from building tenants and occupants. Oversee the implementation of ongoing contract programs to constantly assess tenant and occupant needs and to ensure problems are being solved promptly to the mutual benefit of the tenant, client, and the properties in accordance with contract scope and Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)

• Ensure that all site-specific documentation and reports are completed accurately and on time, including (and as applicable): Property Information Book, Site Operating Manual, Emergency Procedures Manual, IIPP Manual, Local Code Compliance Log, ADA Compliance Log, OSHA Log, Safety Meeting Log, Elevator Logs, Janitorial Log, Purchase Order Log, Vendor Certificates of Insurance, As-built Drawings, IIPP Manual, Paid Invoices File, General Files, Contract Files, Annual Property Conditions and Year-end Performance Report, and other reports and documentation, as required

• Prepare, review, and give initial approval and as needed all budgets, financial reports (monthly and quarterly), contracts, expenditures and purchase orders related to the facility(ies) or complex.

• Coordinate the preparation and publication of the annual budget, quarterly reforecast, and business plans

• Assist in the development of capital budgets for the property. This includes contributions towards a five-year plan of maintenance, facility improvement, and cost reduction initiatives

• Collect, analyze and report statistical data as may be required to provide accurate and current assessment of facility management objectives

• Hire, train and motivate facility personnel. Maintain positive staff relations. Conduct or approve performance evaluations for staff

Job Description:

To maintain a safe and effective environment through maintenance, repair and operation of all mechanical, pneumatic and ventilating equipment. Prevent unscheduled downtime of equipment.

Principle Responsibilities

• Provides maintenance and repairs to building structures, building systems, and equipment contained therein.
  • Service, repair, and maintain refrigeration and HVAC system.
  • Service, repair and install piping, fixtures, fittings and associated hardware for compressed gasses, vacuum, steam, potable and non-potable plumbing systems.
  • Do electrical replacements, repairs and maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Report hazards and/or potential work hazards in our facilities in order to prevent injury to self, peers, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintain record of all inspections, testing and repairs to comply with regulatory and insurance agency requirements.
  • May perform emergency repairs on critical life safety and none-life safety equipment which could include patient beds, surgical gurneys, utilities disruption, nurse call, TVs and electronics.
  • May perform daily rounds in designated areas to assure facility is in good, safe working condition.
  • May need to order materials, supplies and parts.
• Operate heating plant boilers when properly licensed.
  • Takes charge of the heating plant and makes adjustments to building systems.
• Preventative and Corrective Maintenance.
  • May perform interior preventative maintenance which could include panting, electrical, plumbing, light carpentry and HVAC related needs.
  • May perform exterior preventative maintenance which could include roof checks, grounds checks and snow removal.
  • Preventative Maintenance helps prevent possible downtime

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies

• 2 to 5 years of experience in refrigeration cycle, electrical knowledge, welding, HVAC, pneumatic control experience and fire system

Licenses/Certifications

• Minnesota locations, Special Class Engineer Boiler License is required at time of hire; if working at Abbott, must be able to obtain within 90 days of hire
• United, Mercy, or Unity campus, 2nd Class B License must be obtained within 15 months of employment
• Valid Driver’s License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid driver’s license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment
