Lead Medical Supply Technician working with the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) staff as a resource for daily operation routines, training, and problem solving while assisting the Supervisors with oversight, quality assurance, and compliance. The Lead Technician is competent in all areas of SPS including Decontamination, Preparation, Cool Room, Center Core, and endoscope reprocessing including High Level Disinfection. SPS practices and processes are based on VHA Handbooks and Directives, Industry Standards (AAMI, AORN, IAHCSMM) and manufacturer instructions for use. The Lead Technician duties include but are not limited to:

• Must be able to understand references and how to research standards and guidelines for best practices as well as develop a plan to assist in implementation.
• Quality Control in SPS requires all staff to visually inspect and test instruments and equipment for function and quality
• Assist in proactively assessing the instrument sets prior to release to the clinical service. Instruments that are not appropriate for use processed for replacement or repair
• Ensure the volume, quality, and needs of instruments for the end-user are managed appropriately. Loaner sets come in to the service and must be checked for accuracy and cleanliness and should be accompanied with proper count sheets and manufacturer cleaning guidelines;

They are: 1) walk-in clinic, 2) hearing aid repairs, 3) hearing aid and earmold certification and tracking, 4) data, equipment and supply management, 5) earmold impressions, and 6) audiologist support. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Supports Audiology professionals in procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing problems using standard face-to-face and telehealth applications.
• Operates and maintains medical and telehealth equipment for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Perform patient care procedures and provides follow-up hearing aid consultation for patients recently fit with hearing aids.

The Cardiovascular Technician functions independently as a member of the cardiovascular lab under the supervision of the nurse manager. • The work requires the incumbent to record and interpret data from highly specialized x- ray, infrared, mechanical, electrical, electronic, ultrasonic, and digital computerized systems.
• The incumbent understanding and knowledge of supplies (catheters, wires, balloons, stents etc.) and other equipment involved in order to perform these complex procedures. The incumbent has the ability to independently perform technical aspects of highly intense invasive procedure of different types of cardiology studies, hemodynamic calculations, and electrophysiology and adapt equipment to that particular patient's conditions for the best study/imaging quality and results.
• The incumbent train new fellows on how to use the x-ray equipment, transducers, and catheters based on different technological processes. The cardiovascular technologist work as a team member along with nurses to prep patients, which includes connecting patient to monitors prior to procedure to ensure proper hemodynamics data collection.

Accounting and Budget Technical

• Examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data.
• Receives and analyzes various types of documents to determine validity, budget expenditure impact, completeness, and correctness of the budgetary data.
• Determines proper cost centers, budget object codes, appropriations, and fund control points to be entered into the financial system of record. All documents must be reviewed for accuracy prior to obligation of funds.

• Reviews federal travel regulations and VA travel policies to ensure that the correct entitlements are approved for each traveler.
• Serves as the administrator for the travel management system, creating and maintaining accounts, creating routing lists for approvals, resetting passwords and assigning appropriate access levels.
• Assists customers in entering requests for supervisory and SES approval for temporary duty travel (TOY) in compliance with VA travel policy.

FUNCTIONS OR SCOPES OF PRACTICE

• Accurately interpret, fills, and prepares prescriptions with appropriate medications and or medical supplies for pharmacist verification.
• Assures drugs and supplies are appropriately stored and secured according to USP and VA guidelines, including the storage of high-risk, look a-like sound a-like, hazardous, controlled substances, corrosive chemical, flammable liquids, and refrigerated items.
• Receives, checks, rotates, and places in stock all items received from pharmacy procurement section and identifies and reconciles any discrepancies to assure correct items have been received.
• Utilizes automation dispensing equipment available to the pharmacy staff following all safety and QA procedures. Reports automation malfunctions timely the supervisor as appropriate
• Records expiration dates in the automatic prescription dispensing system upon receipt.
• Perform monthly inspections to assigned areas to ensure proper storage of medications and soon to expired drugs are removed. Completes inspection reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Compounds and/or reconstitutes oral or external medications (non-sterile). This includes calculating and converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug or solution to be used for final pharmacist verification.
