We’re looking for newly qualified Dental Technicians who have graduated in 2024 and who are currently eligible to register with the General Dental Council.

You will mainly be based in our laboratory facility at the University Dental Hospital Manchester which provides an excellent and stimulating working environment. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of technicians producing a wide range of appliances and restorations to meet the needs of the M.F.T. Trust and University Clinical Staff, Postgraduate and Undergraduate Dental Students and Dental Technical Staff.

As you would expect, you will receive comprehensive in-house training in the aspects of dental technology across the disciplines and you will be able to access locally provided CPD sessions. You’ll be involved in patient cases from model production and diagnostics through to final restorations/appliances.

You will have:

*Knowledge of a range of technical procedures within Dental Technology.
*BSc, Foundation Degree, National Diploma in Dental Technology or equivalent qualification recognised by the GDC.
*Good communication skills and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Engage in medicines management duties at ward level, such as medicines reconciliation, assessing patients' own medications and ordering medications.

Students will virtually attend college on day release to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians. Decontamination Services Department (DSD) is responsible for providing sterile services to five of the hospitals that comprise the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The Department is run to the highest standards and is accredited to Medical Device European Directive 93/42/EEC, ISO 13485:2016. DSD is located in a large, state of the art, purpose built facility on the Oxford Road Site.

As a DSD Technician you’ll undertake the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilisation and distribution of medical devices (surgical instruments) for operating theatres and departments across the Oxford Road site, as well as to its outside customers. You’ll also ensure that the service is provided efficiently and in accordance with the Department’s policies, procedures and Quality Management System.

Whilst no specific qualifications are required, a background in sterile services would be useful, but is not essential as we provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training programme. You’ll need to be reasonably fit too, as the role involves manual handling, walking and standing activities. What’s more, you must be able to follow procedures in a production environment, have effective communication skills, a conscientious and methodical approach to work and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Pharmacy Technician Manchester Case Management (MCM)

MCM is a service which proactively supports people identified as “at high risk of hospital admission” through clinic appointments, home visits and telephone calls. The service brings together the skills and expertise of GPs, nurses, mental health nurses and practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and wellbeing advisers to provide intensive and flexible support to people who are struggling to stay healthy, safe and well at home.

You must have a substantial amount of hospital or primary care experience, be a Pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). You will also need to be able to have access to a car for work purposes.

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing technical input as part of the pharmaceutical support to the Manchester Case Management Service. Domiciliary visits to patients for medicines optimisation interventions is a key feature of this role as well as multidisciplinary team (MDT) working. Other areas include:

Support the delivery of medicines optimisation to the Manchester Case Management Service

Support pharmacists to establish safe working arrangements for medicines in the Community Medicines Optimisation Service

Assist in the development and implementation of pharmaceutical care plans

Carry out medication reviews with patients in area of clinical competence

Identify and act on medication errors/queries within area of competence, reporting complex issues to a medicines optimisation pharmacist as appropriate.

Assist in the management of prescribing across primary care

Provide support to other CMOS workstreams as necessary.

HSDU provides a technical service to the whole Trust i.e., the decontamination and sterilisation of medical devices. This is a service which is critical to patient safety.

The service provided by HSDU is in continuous demand from theatres and other “customers” throughout the Trust. The potholder is frequently required to respond effectively to unpredictable demands, changing priorities, interruptions etc. associated with this hectic and stressful environment immediately changing planned activities in response.

The largest proportion of work carried out by the department is the reprocessing of surgical instruments after use. The initial stage in this process is the decontamination of the instruments which involves the removal of blood, tissue and other bodily fluids resulting from their previous use and may be exposed to indirect or aerosol contact with the hazard.

To undertake decontamination duties in a busy NHS Hospital Sterile service department, assist under supervision and be part of team that provides a specialised decontamination of medical devices, contributing to the clinical care of the patient. The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids.

To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing, sterilisation & Portering of reusable medical devices. Record all tasks using the SSDMan tracking and tracing database. Use manual dexterity & concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of the reusable medical devices in accordance with Manufacturer’s instructions.

Work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems to ensure that a high standard of work is always maintained.

Plan your own workload with limited supervision, able to recognise routine problems & provide solutions. Work within own competencies & escalate issues where appropriate.

To provide a collection and delivery service to the Decontamination Departments’ Customers. Active member of and On Call (out of hours) Service and overtime, to ensure the department deliver decontamination services when required out of normal departmental working hrs.

Decontamination Services Department (DSD) is responsible for providing sterile services to five of the hospitals that comprise the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The Department is run to the highest standards and is accredited to Medical Device European Directive 93/42/EEC, ISO 13485:2016. DSD is located in a large, state of the art, purpose built facility on the Oxford Road Site.

As a DSD Technician you’ll undertake the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilisation and distribution of medical devices (surgical instruments) for operating theatres and departments across the Oxford Road site, as well as to its outside customers. You’ll also ensure that the service is provided efficiently and in accordance with the Department’s policies, procedures and Quality Management System.

Whilst no specific qualifications are required, a background in sterile services would be useful, but is not essential as we provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training programme. You’ll need to be reasonably fit too, as the role involves manual handling, walking and standing activities. What’s more, you must be able to follow procedures in a production environment, have effective communication skills, a conscientious and methodical approach to work and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

You will have a professional outlook and able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills providing support to deliver an exceptionally high standard of Aseptic Service. A working knowledge of Aseptic Services is desirable but not essential as a comprehensive training program is available.

You will have responsibility for assisting the Senior Technical Team in the day-to-day management and development of the Aseptic Services Unit Cytotoxic, PN and CIVA Service within MFT.
To carry out aseptic preparation including parenteral nutrition, CIVA, cytotoxic drugs, gene therapy and monoclonal antibodies from point of prescription receipt including accurately measuring volumes, following departmental procedures.
You will be responsible for the transfer disinfection into the aseptic units all items required for aseptic process
To assist the Senior Technical Team – Aseptic Services in planning, organising and managing the workload in accordance with the capacity plan, ensuring adequate numbers of appropriately trained staff are available to perform tasks required for a given activity level and feeding back information to Senior managers when breaches and constraints occur sing, following departmental processes.
