The Brownhill Learning Community (BLC)is a federation of Brownhill Special School and the Pupil Referral Service (PRS) who work together to provide education provision for school aged pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs who are out of the mainstream environment. There are 3 BLC sites across Rochdale and 1 site in Heywood. The postholder will work across all of the 4 sites across the borough.

Over the next 12 months the Governing Body for the Special school and the Management committee for the PRS are working closely with the local Authority to de federate and separate the Special school from the PRS. This post will still be needed after the defederation process has been completed

Presently the finances and HR for the BLC are quite complex with funding for both the Special school provision and the PRS as well as many staff working across both provisions. In the staffing structure for Brownhill Learning Community there is a SBM Grade 9 and an SBM Grade 7 post. Both posts are presently vacant. The SBM Grade 9 will line manage the SBM Grade 7 until the defederation is completed and roles and responsibilities can be clearly defined once both posts have been filled.

In order to attract the right candidate for this important post, the Governing Board for the Special school and the Management committee for the PRS are willing to be flexible with hours and weeks of working for the successful candidate. This can be discussed at interview and on appointment

The Work Health and Skills team part of Economic Affairs are looking to recruit someone to help support with the administrative duties of the ESOL Advice Service team, working across multiple Microsoft applications and digital platforms. There will also be opportunities to get involved in the wider work of the team including the variety of different projects and events that we are responsible for delivering.

The role will be supporting the project that works with people from a variety of different communities and backgrounds, so it’s really important that the person has a good understanding of some of the economic inequalities that people experience and the impact that this can have, especially on those that face multiple barriers including lack of English language. The ESOL Advice Service team works with a large number of people whose first language isn’t English, so we need someone that is able to communicate effectively with this cohort and have an understanding of the different ethnic and cultural backgrounds that live across the borough.

Although the role is initially for twelve months the post holder will be supported to access any relevant training to support them with their own continuous professional development and be supported with to access other opportunities both internally and externally.
