Due to demand, we are currently expanding our Engineering Project Management team in the South West and Wales region. We are therefore actively recruiting for an Electrical Project Manager to join our Engineering team supporting our operational business across the region, based out of our sites in and around Cardiff.
As Electrical Project Manager you will attend sites to assist with capital projects and offer Engineering solutions ensuring the safety of site staff and contractors delivering the projects within a CDM environment. You will also be responsible for the financial control of the investments ensuring that budget constraints and expectations are achieved, and that the projects deliver all the objectives set out in the initial justification of the investment.

Main ResponsibilitiesReporting to Regional Engineering Manager the role of Electrical Project Manager will be responsible for providing best in class electrical engineering and project management services to the operating business. This is not a typical maintenance engineering role – you could be implementing a HV or LV upgrade, a control system upgrade or perhaps a turnkey operation for a processing plant – from cradle to grave. Whatever the PM services, you will be responsible for innovating cost effective solutions in a consistent manner throughout the region.
The role of Electrical Project Manager will also:
- Manage and ensure the company electrical standards, site electrical maintenance schemes and electrical procedures in the region meet minimum legal requirements, CRH life saving rules and are cost effective and comply with any legislation changes
- Take responsibility for supporting sites with the Statutory Electrical Maintenance and support operational staff with any electrical maintenance or improvements
- Support project managers and operational staff in providing electrical designs, cost estimates, alternative solutions and drawings to support capital projects
- Appoint and approve all electrical competent staff and support contractor companies for electrical work within your region (auditing companies to ensure compliance on standards)
- Ensure projects are designed to achieve the lowest cost of ownership possible, through the whole life of the asset
- Identify opportunities for cost saving projects and develop solutions
- Support plant development and automation including energy reduction programs
- Support Tarmac electrical staff (electricians & apprentices) in their personal skills and professional development
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for the role of Electrical Project Manager will possess a strong background in electrical engineering and project management preferably working on sites in the concrete, aggregate, asphalt and / or sand and gravel sector. Alternatively, you may have in depth experience delivering an operational engineering role within an industrial, heavy plant or manufacturing sector.
Suitable candidates for the role of Electrical Project Manager will also have:
- Project Management process knowledge and experience
- Ability to estimate and scope work
- Electrical Engineering Qualifications (ideally degree, HNC, HND, C&G, NVQ or similar)
- 17th Edition Wiring Regs essential (18th Edition preferred)
- Proven ability to collaborate
- Self Awareness
- Resilience
- Ability to manage complex situations in a resourceful manner
- Commitment to ensures accountability and develops talent across the region
- HV and LV installations, Earthing studies, MCC and VSD standards
- Knowledge of PLC control and automation
- Highly numerate with good financial understanding
- Working knowledge and understanding of The Quarry Regulations 1999 advantageous
This is a mobile role, covering the South West and Wales region. A company car is provided so a full UK driving licence is required.
