To deliver the Pan-NNL CISO and emergency exercise schedule under the direction of the NNL Emergency Manager and maintain the emergency arrangements Pan-NNL at an immediate state of readiness.

Main Responsibilities for Emergency Planner:

• Support the development of CISO function and Emergency Exercise Schedule(s) that provide adequate levels of training and exercising of response teams, meet all regulatory and stakeholder expectations and provide proportionate coverage of CISO function and emergency preparedness risks.


• Accountable for ensuring all emergency equipment and facilities including, Incident Control Centre, Access Control Point, Re-Entry Preparation Area or Building Control Point (as appropriate to Site) are maintained in a constant state of readiness.


• Ensure the completion of all exercises defined in the Exercise Schedule(s) within the timescales defined. They shall define aims, objectives and injects, act as umpire or evaluator, arrange resources and coordinate the running of all exercises. All drills and exercises are to be challenging and provide adequate training and evaluation of the Response Teams for their area(s) of responsibility. They shall be responsible for supporting the Emergency Manager ensuring each Incident Response post holder gets at least the minimum defined training for their role necessary to maintain SQEP status.


• Where an exercise, drill, local, industry or national event identifies learning, areas for improvement or any shortfalls, they shall be accountable for developing and implementing corrective actions. This may include a major overhaul of emergency response arrangements and associated training. All significant shortfalls are to be brought to the attention of the Emergency Manager for implementation.


• Engage with stakeholders, both internal and external, to support operations and deliver the exercise schedule, including the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Civilian Guard Force, Fire and Rescue and the site licence holder.


• Conduct coaching and mentoring to CISO function and Emergency Response post trainees to achieve at least the minimum defined training for their role necessary to achieve SQEP status.


• They shall ensure that sufficient individuals are trained, appointed and available to cover CISO function and emergency roles at each facility accounting for sickness, leave and natural attrition, without unduly burdening any single individual(s).


• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable regulations, processes and industry best practice.


• Proactive in Continuous Improvement: Promote best practice within the function by, for example, actively participating in Operational Experience Feedback (OEF) briefs and implementing learning identified from other facilities.

Essential Criteria for Emergency Planner:

• Detail orientated, and able to work to stringent deadlines within a regulated environment.


• High levels of integrity and the confidence to challenge the behavior of others.


• Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience.


• Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.


• Experience of remaining calm under stressful circumstances.

Desirable Criteria for Emergency Planner:

• Experienced in working in a regulated environment.


• Experience working within a CISO function utilising play books and exercising them.


• Experience of emergency planning in a major accident industry.


• Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) in an emergency planning or security discipline.


• Experience of security decision making and an understanding of security systems management.


• Has undertaken formal Emergency management and planning training (or equivalent), for example those provided by the Cabinet Office's Emergency Planning College.


• Experience in security-based function.

A Project Safety Case Manager (PSCM) is a project-specific role to support the NNL Safety Case Delivery Lead and facility Safety Case Managers to ensure the company's continued compliance with all safety case-related Site Licence Conditions (principally LC14, 15, 23, 27).

The PSCM is responsible for the planning, alignment, development and implementation of a safety case to meet project demands. The role is required to ensure that the safety case is delivered in a clear and user-friendly way all stakeholders. The PSCM is a lead role and must be able to perform duties with minimal management direction.

The role location is at an NNL facility on the Sellafield site.

Main Responsibilities for Project Safety Case Manager:

• Lead implementation of governance arrangements to ensure appropriate legislative, regulatory, environmental, safety and quality requirements are complied with across their area of responsibility.


• Develop, implement and maintain a clear strategy for the ongoing management of the project safety case in line with the relevant process arrangements.


• Act as the customer (on behalf of the SCM and SCO) regarding project safety case requirements and alignment with the facility safety case. They shall be the primary point of contact for project safety case issues.


• Sponsor documentation through the safety committee (PMP, MSC).


• Ensure the project safety case is clear, fit for purpose, pragmatic and user friendly.


• Provide high quality safety case advice to all stakeholders.


• Identify and drive improvement initiatives on safety case understanding and implementation in the workplace.


• Look for, use and share learning from internal and external sources and from events and good practice.


• Support the SCM and drive the training and development of safety case team members in line with the safety case workbook, career pathway and business requirements.


• Maintain up to date detailed knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory and company policy, standards and procedures.


• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable regulations, processes and industry good practice, through attendance at relevant forums within the wider safety case community and benchmarking with other organisations. They shall be responsible for managing implementation of these back in the workplace.

Essential Criteria for Project Safety Case Manager:

• Experienced in working in a regulated industry, detail orientated, and able to work to stringent deadlines.


• Compliance professional, educated to Degree level (or equivalent), with extensive demonstrable practical & relevant experience in a safety case management role.


• Must demonstrate an ability to analyse and interpret complex information from several, sometimes conflicting or novel sources, with a proven problem-solving ability in order to make decisions based upon this information.


• Highly motivated with the ability to communicate concepts to diverse audiences with varying skills.


• Experience of remaining calm under stressful circumstances.


• Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience.

Reporting to the Pre-Operations and Business Improvement Manager, NNL is seeking to hire a Business Improvement Practitioner. The role of the Business Improvement Practitioner will involve collaborating with all departments within the facility to identify process improvements that will enhance efficiency, customer delivery, cost-effectiveness and safety with quantifiable results.

Situated at the Windscale facility, this position will offer direct assistance to facility operations in enhancing overall operational effectiveness through incremental improvement initiatives. While primarily based on-site, there may be occasions where remote work or attendance at events in offsite locations is necessary.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Business Improvement Practitioner:

• Select, introduce, and standardise Improvement tools and techniques across the business, for example standard work, Value Stream Mapping, Waste identification, SIPOC, 5S, Root Cause Analysis and charters, as appropriate for the facility.
• Lead and facilitate continuous improvement opportunities, training and workshops driving cultural change guided by business data and implementing industry best practices.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to teams on how and when to use the standard tool sets and assist in activities to grow the culture.
