This Master Transportation Security Officer - Security Training Instructor position is located at Syracuse-Hancock International Airport (SYR), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Master Transportation Security Officer (MTSO), you will support the airport training program through performance of a variety of training-related functions. In addition to training program responsibilities, you will also perform pre-board security screening of persons, cargo, carry-on, and checked baggage as directed by the Federal Security Director (FSD), or his/her designee, a minimum of 20% of the time. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Performing training instruction within established guidelines and standards in support of nationally developed training programs (e.g., new hire training, On-Screen Alarm Resolution Protocol, Crossover); supporting recurrent training needs, and conducting return to duty and remediation training.
• Adapting/developing local training materials to meet requirements; conducting local training in accordance with training standards; assisting with the training department administrative support (e.g., Online Learning Center (OLC) entry, training resource room facilitation, roster management, conducting testing, and ensuring evaluations are done); assisting with training logistics support components (e.g., coordinating needed supplies and materials); managing classroom dynamics; resolving routine classroom problems; monitoring and evaluating training and providing feedback on needed adjustments; recommending enhancements; and maintaining communication with management and supervisors concerning issues with training that may reveal security-screening weaknesses or vulnerabilities.
• As directed, providing mentoring/coaching to address identified training needs.

• Plans, administers and coordinates the development of the many phases involved in the preparation of a complete set of plans, specifications, and estimates for proposed construction projects.

What Will Be Your Day to Day Responsibilities?

Within the role of receptionist, you will take on varying duties which will include but not be limited to:

• Act as the first point of contact for people on probation and visitors, delivering a professional greeting in person, via telephone, and email.
• Manage visitor processes including logging arrival/departure times, notifying staff, and issuing visitor passes and security fobs.

• Ensure building safety and security by performing tasks like fire alarm and panic button tests, monitoring CCTV, and acting as a Fire Warden or First Aider when necessary.
• Report building faults, maintain logs of repairs, and escalate urgent maintenance issues to appropriate channels.
• Respond to and defuse potentially volatile situations, recognising when to involve management or external security, and taking appropriate actions for safeguarding or risk concerns.
• Cover late-night reporting shifts (up to 9pm) approximately once every 3-4 weeks (Monday - Thursday).
