What will I be doing?

ABOUT THE POST

Reporting to the Security Coordinator you will be involved in the provision of security services at our busy campuses at Holloway & Aldgate, working within a team of 10 Security Officers and 4 Security Shift Supervisors. Key duties of the role also include the monitoring of Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Emergency procedures, and the provision of first aid support to building users. The role can be physically demanding as you will be required to carry out regular patrols and health & safety compliance checks.

The security team covers all building opening times, which currently range between 06:00 to 00:30 Monday – Friday and between 07:00 – 19:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. All members of the team will be rostered to cover our building opening hours, including any subsequent changes to these hours.

You should have experience in a customer service and support role, together with a good working knowledge of operating security, CCTV, fire, intruder and access control systems. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.

You will be a qualified First Aider or be willing to train as such. You should hold an appropriate SIA license or be willing to train as such.

You'll be responsible for enhancing the Group's reputation by supporting the Ambassadors for the East and South-East of England in their role as trusted and credible influencers within these regions, thereby helping to amplify and promote the Group's main strategic priorities. We're looking for a high-calibre colleague who's engaged and passionate to work with us from no later than February 2025.

The BSM is a member of the wider GPA team, made up of colleagues from a variety of political, policy and industry backgrounds. The main focus areas will be political engagement and public policy advocacy, with a requirement to use traditional and social media to enhance the Group's reputation and secure engagement with our policy positions in these regions. The BSM will be required to maintain and build a good political network in the East and South East of England.

Key responsibilities

• Devising a comprehensive regional engagement strategy.

• Preparing and briefing Ambassadors ahead of meetings with political stakeholders.

• Political monitoring of political and public policy issues relevant to the Ambassador's regions.

• Convening, and preparing for, roundtables and bilateral meetings with regional stakeholders including local MPs, Metro Mayors, Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) leaders (both virtually and face-to-face within the region or Westminster). This will require travel to and around both regions.

• Supporting the delivery of division-wide engagement and policy advocacy campaigns e.g. The Big Conversation 2020.

• Developing and delivering comprehensive political engagement plans for the Ambassadors, crafted to deliver LBG's strategic priorities. While balancing this with 'reactive' engagement on topics which matter to regional stakeholders e.g. support for business, domestic abuse, inclusion, branch closures etc.

• Developing good working relationships with local MPs, thereby becoming a trusted and known LBG contact for the region's stakeholders.

• Identifying, escalating and mitigating emerging risks arising from decisions taken by the Group in the region.

• Representing the Group at, sometimes difficult, political meetings and functions with regional government officials, trade bodies and other opinion formers.

• Responding swiftly (and socialise with other GPA peers) to enquiries or complaints from politicians. This could involve monitoring of political activity during weekends or bank holidays.

• Providing expertise and input into government consultations specifically affecting the regions.

• Working with social and traditional media agencies to develop opportunities for being recognised for our social activity and, ultimately, to increase advocacy of our ideas. The purpose of the post is: Security Officers are responsible for the overall safety and security of the College. The security team plays a critical role in the College’s culture and climate. A calm, structured, and positive learning environment is top priority for the College, the Student Security Assistant is actively involved in the progressive discipline system and provides the first line of defence to defuse and de-escalate student misconduct and/or serious incidents. The post holder should have extensive experience of working in access control/security or working with young adults in a supervisory role in youth/social/sport work. The post holder will be working on a shift system operating Monday to Friday: 08.00 – 22:00, during college terms. Outside term-time, hours are limited to day time. Hours may change from week to week. The post-holder will be expected to take all leave outside college term-time except in an emergency or exceptionally by agreement with their manager.

* Provide a professional, efficient, and approachable security service, with associated reception duties, maintaining a high level of customer service to staff and visitors at all times.

* Carry out patrols to ensure a safe and secure environment, recording maintenance issues, potential breaches of security or unusual occurrences in the site Daily occurrence book (found on SmartTask) and reporting any finding to the Security Control Room (SCR) accordingly.

* To provide staff, visitors & contractors to the site with helpful advice, guidance and information and if not able to do so, direct to someone who can assist appropriately.

* Ensure that those who should not be granted access to the facility are professionally and
politely prevented from gaining access or escorted from the site/building.

* Provide support in an emergency or evacuation situation, in a calm and professional manner. Actively provide up to date information to any emergency services when requested to do so.

* If required as part of the team undertake regular testing of fire alarms and other security equipment, completing the appropriate logs, and notifying the Supervisor, Manager or client representative of any issues of malfunctioning equipment.

* Ensure and regularly check that the site fire exits are maintained and free of obstructions, reporting any defects or maintenance issues as appropriate.

* Monitor and respond immediately to alarm system activation's to check designated areas of concern. Effectively communicate with the SCR/Line Manager to advise of incident situations or actions required of them.

* Ensure CCTV systems are professionally, effectively and sensitively monitored in compliance with the GDPR legislation and Client operating standards.

* Conduct individual bag or property searches, if directed to do so by the Client representative and in accordance with the instructions contained in the Method Statement.

* Ensure the effective control and maintenance of keys, passwords etc.

* Conduct routine security administration including the issue of visitor / contractor passes, permits as required.

* Ensure that any lost property left within the premises is securely stored, recorded and retrieved for the owner where appropriate and is reported to the Security Control Room.

* Maintain all security related equipment and working areas to a high standard of cleanliness and safety and ensure all defects are reported.

* Complete relevant records and logbooks, in a professional manner providing sufficient detail.

* During incidents of inappropriate behaviour or requests for assistance from the staff. Assist in the removal or escort of members of the public from the site where their behaviour is disruptive or presents a risk to others.

* Respond to requests to move on vagrants from client property or perimeter and ensure staff are not harassed by providing a visible security presence.

* Support and comply with the Fire, Health and Safety, and Security policies and procedures.

* Working with the Buildings Management teams (if required) to carry out the evacuation of people from lifts, to minimise panic and ensure the safety of all concerned.

* Assist in the induction and training of new members of the team.

* Deal with any suspicious packages, maintaining own and others safety and dealing with these in accordance with client procedures.

* Actively maintain the confidentiality of information to which Security Officers will be privy, be this around individuals or security sensitive information in relation to the Building/Site and using appropriate language.

* Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Supervisor, Contracts Manager and the client representative.
