The role of Deputy Director in Healthcare Public Health for the South East Region is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of public health professionals working to improve health by delivering evidence-based public health advice. The Deputy Director for Healthcare Public Health provides local leadership of the NHS healthcare public health system, on behalf of the Regional Director.

The Deputy Director contributes to improving and protecting the public health through: championing prevention and reducing demand in healthcare, improving efficiency and value in healthcare, and identifying and reducing inequalities.

The postholder will be an experienced leader adept at working with colleagues in different parts of the health system and beyond, building partnerships to improve health. Leading a team of ~13 people, including six consultants in public health, the post-holder will develop overall strategy, identify future challenges and promote good relationships between NHSE, ICBs, local authorities, OHID and UKHSA. The work will include supporting the ‘left shift’ of NHS services from sickness to prevention and from hospital to home. The work will also cover providing high quality support on dental public health, specialised commissioning, and health and justice.
