Passenger Transport – Community Companions
Join us as a Technical Officer and play a pivotal role in improving the county’s bus network through the National Bus Strategy and Wiltshire’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).
This role offers a unique chance to make a real difference in the lives of Wiltshire’s residents, improving transport options, supporting sustainability goals and helping to build a more connected, greener county.
As a Technical Officer, you will plan and design bus infrastructure projects, including new bus stops, shelters and priority schemes. You'll audit and maintain existing infrastructure, coordinate data collection and collaborate with internal teams, bus operators and external partners on development projects. Engaging with local representatives, you will drive improvements in passenger satisfaction, reliability and punctuality. You'll also assist with funding bids, monitor project effectiveness and update the Bus Service Improvement Plan as needed.
We are looking for someone with a degree or equivalent in civil engineering or a transport-related field, with experience working in passenger transport, transport planning or civil engineering. You should possess proven project management skills, the ability to analyse and evaluate transport data, and a high level of numeracy for statistical analysis. Strong communication, negotiation, and diplomacy skills are essential, along with proficiency in relevant computer applications, including spreadsheets and GIS software.
