The Health System Specialist supports the Director's Office by coordinating and directing a limited range of operational matters dealing with planning, congressional issues, Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), the media, and overseeing and coordinating service networks initiatives with central offices. The incumbent maintains a working knowledge of administrative and managerial processes unique to the agency and veteran health initiatives, such as budget distribution models, emergency management, Joint Commission, compliance, etc. The work involves investigating and analyzing a variety of problems and recommending appropriate solutions. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and managing incoming actions and requests from initial receipt to completion and closeout.
- Analyzing responses for completeness and accuracy against known policies and procedures.
- Conducting routine studies on particular operational processes, issue topics, or related special projects where successive steps in fact finding are utilized, and study planning, statistical measurement, data analysis, and narrative report preparation and development may be required.
- Working in coordination with internal reviewing services regarding routine audits and internal/external reviews of a national concern; i.e, fiscal efficiencies and organizational structure that are reviewed by prominent parties such as the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
- Tracking routine deadlines initiated by OIG/GAO and internal reviewing officials to ensure timely submission of responses and actions, and ensuring action or inquiry is closed out with the inquirer or office.
- Working closely with senior management and others in implementing and evaluating policies, plans, and internal operational systems, such as correspondence management, information tracking among pertinent offices and stakeholders, and internal/external communication flows.
- Coordinating routine events hosted by officials, including town hall meetings with internal staff, and completing all steps required within an event management process, including facilitating selection of the event time, developing a formal agenda, managing any required contracts and all logistical items, disseminating information to attendees, and ensuring smooth execution of the event.
