We are now looking for an enthusiastic Software Developer to support this ground breaking program of research. An exciting opportunity to join EDINA’s Technical Operations section with responsibility for the management of EDINA’s infrastructure level services. This is a Grade 8, full-time, open-ended position based in central Edinburgh. The role is hybrid, you will report to the Head of Technical Operations and will be on campus a minimum of one day per week.

What the job involves:

Leading the Technical Operations team of software and data engineers, with overall HR responsibility for hiring, coaching and talent management;
Allocate engineering resources ensuring technical skills are in place to deliver EDINA’s projects and services;
Work with EDINA Head of Services to understand service roadmap priorities, plan and ensure delivery of prioritised developments;
Contribute to strategic aims of EDINA as a member of management team, with key responsibility for Technical Operations section;
Ownership of strategies for core business systems e.g. CRM/Help Desk/incident management, business continuity planning, information security;
Manage and have oversight of hardware, application software, middleware and performance of EDINA’s subscription services.

This is a key professional service leadership and management role in a unique and dynamic environment that brings together the academic rigor of an ancient and world-leading university with the creative and innovative excellence of one of the longest-established art schools in the UK.

ITTS brings together all aspects of Information Technology, Technology Enhanced Learning and Technical Services for learning, teaching and research. It recognises the strong interdependencies between these areas, critical to the success of Edinburgh College of Art and the Edinburgh Futures Institute.

The role will have responsibility for driving the operational delivery and strategic development and managing significant change in the School’s information, technical and technology learning and research service activities, ensuring alignment with School and University strategic priorities. The post holder is responsible and accountable for high quality, customer focussed and responsive service delivery and for further developing and sustaining a dynamic, enthusiastic and above all customer-focused team in support of information, technical and technology activities.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Software Engineer to join our team and act as part of the development team which provides our award-winning national services to the UK higher education and schools markets. The post will be line managed by a Senior Software Engineer and report to our Head of Technical Operations.

This post is an open-ended contract based at EDINA, University of Edinburgh. EDINA is a center of digital expertise providing EdTech solutions to the higher, further and school education sectors for decades with a national and international reputation.

The post is a hybrid one with the Software Engineer expected to be on campus in Edinburgh at least one day a week based. The team would prefer full time working hours (35 hrs per week) however are committed to offering flexible working options such as compressed hours or staggered start/finish times.

What the job involves:

Front End development using modern design, automation and continuous delivery methods;
Backend Development for application so that infrastructure and API’s are resilient and consistent;

This is an exciting opportunity to join Bioresearch & Veterinary Services (BVS) department at the University of Edinburgh. BVS provides biomedical research services across the University for a large and diverse scientific community and oversees all aspects of welfare, breeding and husbandry of animals used in research. BVS is looking to recruit a Technical Assistant to support world leading research at the University of Edinburgh.

The post of Animal Technical Assistant is a technical position which involves performing animal husbandry duties to ensure all animal needs are met and excellent standards of cleanliness maintained in BVS facilities. You will be able to undertake routine data recording and responding to task requests, provide routine and non-procedural technical assistance to research staff when required. The willingness to train towards a Personal Licence is essential. The successful applicant will be able to work as part of a team, be able to clearly communicate and be able to follow instructions and procedures without constant guidance. The Opportunity:

The post holder will provide critical and specialist technical support for the GREAT Cell project and the SEAWARM project currently within the School of GeoSciences. The SEAWARM project is in the process of creating a spin off company with longer term employment possibilities.

The GREAT cell is world leading experimental technology, designed and built within Edinburgh over the last 12 years, and contributes unique data sets relevant to nett zero and energy security.

SEAWARM incorporates patent pending technology to provide low cost low CO2 footprint heating and cooling using water source heat pump technology. SEAWARM provides the opportunity for longer term employment in a (to be) spin off company currently classed as a high growth opportunity.
