As a Supervisory Environmental Engineer GS-819-15, you will:

• Conceive, plan, organize, direct, and control, professional and technical engineering services and long-range programs and projects required to identify, evaluate, and control environmental hazards at the NIH due to physical, chemical, and biological materials.
• Evaluate, manage, and control general solid waste, hazardous wastes, medical/ pathological wastes (MPW), and mixed low level radioactive wastes generated at NIH.
• Conduct surveillance and analytical procedures to characterize potential environmental impact and develop necessary specialized equipment, technical systems and programs, and service contracts to comply with Federal, State, and local environmental, hazardous, and solid waste laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
• Serve as the primary manager for the NIH NEPA compliance program, performing assessments and making recommendations on Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and the final records of decision.
• Provide leadership and expert advice and consultation on environmental protection and enhancement issues to the Director, ORF and to NIH senior management and policy committees.
• Oversee and direct contract operations and coordinate the contract efforts within the DEP. Meet personally with professional staff of major contractors, visits contract facilities, reviews progress, and provides guidance to the DEP staff as part of the staff review on the technical efficiency and operational effectiveness of contract activities.
• Represent the DEP, ORF, and NIH in meetings and conferences with senior officials and representatives of other Federal agencies and private sector organizations as necessary, in order to plan, manage, coordinate, and oversee the programs and functions of the DEP.

A current Professional Engineering license OR current registration as a Professional Architect in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico is preferred.

• Serves as the Division senior executive responsible to the ORI Director, OPHS/OS, and higher federal authorities for the direction, oversight, maintenance, and development of the DIO mission and activities.
• Promotes the ORI education and integrity mission to leaders, executives, scientists, researchers in diverse fields, senior staff members, and PHS awardees in other federal agencies, state and local agencies, institutions of higher learning, and private sector institutions both nationally and internationally.
• Directs and oversees DIO activities for the development of diverse educational programs, resources and collaborations with other federal agencies, with state and local agencies, with institutions of higher learning, and with other public or private sector agencies both nationally and internationally.
• Directs and oversees all aspects of the administration and management of the Division and is responsible to ORI leadership and higher authority for the same.

• Serves as a Select Agent Program Manager, ensuring the Select Agent Program is compliant with all Department of Defense (DoD), Army, Federal, State, and activity regulations
• for the acquisition, storage, use, transfer and destruction of all Biological Select Agents and Toxins (BSAT).
• Assists Federal Select Agent Program (FSAP)-registered Principal Investigators (PIs) and technical staff with all BSAT inventory and accountability matters.
• Plays a key role in recording Select Agent Program and BSAT-related activity utilizing data management systems.
• Drafts, reviews, and submits documentation related to BSAT including reports, training, standard operating procedures, permit applications, memorandums, and taskers.
• Prepares and submits FSAP registration packets in consultation with PIs, subject matter experts, and the Responsible Official (RO).
• Prepares for and assists with for all inspections involving BSAT, including from DoD, Army, and Federal regulatory agencies.

Major Duties Include:

• Assists the C&P Manager and Analyst in drafting local credentialing processes and Medical staff bylaws in compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Provides guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation of establishing privileges and is the technical advisor to clinical leadership for the development of department specific privileges and assures that complete documentation is available to support privileges granted to providers within their training and or experience.
• Holds credit card and is responsible for maintaining records reconciling monthly charge statements and verifying legitimacy of requests.
• Reviews quality assessment findings, risk management evaluations and malpractice claim actions to ensure appropriate coordination with the credentials and privileging functions of the credentialing committee of the medical staff regarding individual provider clinical privileges.
• Provides quality control checks on data.
• Conducts audits of provider time-limited credentials , such as licenses and provider certifications and ensures that detailed information is documented on provider exit review forms , privileging documents , FPPE, and OPPE tracking system credentialing program training requirements, telehealth providers monitoring system committee recommended actions.

• Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items

Work Environment: Work is performed in a hospital and involves some exposure to contagious diseases. Standard precautions may necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in situations of potential exposure. The employee must observe ergonomics pertaining to working in an office setting with electrical and stationary equipment. Employee must be alert to wet floors, gas, steam, electrical equipment, and general safety precautions including correct lifting techniques/proper body mechanics in all potential work areas. Discomfort may exist due to changes in temperature [between cold and hot] and/or humidity [between low & high].

The PACT SW is assigned to teams/clinics located at the main facility in WRJ and/or at one or more CBOC locations and provides care to Veterans who receive care through those clinics. The SW will develop skills and expertise in providing care through telephone, tele-medicine, and face-to-face visits. The PACT SW may also provide coverage to the Emergency Department, to other PACT clinics, and/or to Veterans not assigned to any PACT clinic. This position is clinic-based but may include travel to CBOC or community locations. The incumbent provides and can expect coverage from
other social workers.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Incumbent is a professional social worker assigned to the Primary Care PACT. The incumbent must use a high level of skill in assessing and treating the complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans and their families/significant others. Social Work responsibilities include the assessment of psychosocial problems that cause distress, often impacting the health condition and creating barriers to care. These stressors can include adjustment to the current medical condition, untreated or under-treated mental health or substance abuse condition, economic instability, legal problems, and inadequate housing and transportation. Referrals typically originate from any member of the interdisciplinary team, from Veterans and/or their families who call or walk-in for assistance, and from community professionals.
• Completes thorough assessments to determine the underlying causes of the presenting problem, the interpersonal and environmental factors impacting the problem, and its effect on the patient's ability and desire to comply with the treatment recommendations by the multidisciplinary team. The social worker will help the patient and family to understand the contributing factors to the problem(s), will discuss with them the pros and cons of possible short-term and long-term solutions, encouraging them to make positive and lasting changes to reduce stressors.
• Coordinates with VA staff and community agencies to assist in problem solving as needed. Case management with members of the outpatient interdisciplinary team is provided in order to coordinate a collaborative effort to meet the agreed-upon goals for a Veteran's treatment needs and include liaison with community professionals regarding needed services for Veterans and/or their families. Services include but are not limited to interventions to increase access to care, including transportation assistance and advanced directives; provide economic assistance, including assistance with medical bills, financial aid services, and strategies to increase income (employment, vocational rehabilitation, VA benefits, disability), and/or reduce expenses; find the appropriate housing for the patient's level of need (affordable independent housing, homeless shelters, group and family care homes, Veterans Homes, assisted living, nursing homes, respite care, hospice care).
• Independently complete thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families.
• Independently work with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, financial, legal and psychosocial problems.
• Performs additional tasks as assigned.
