This Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) position is responsible for providing the full range of clinical procedures related to respiratory care and is above the full performance level of the occupation.

RRTs at this level must possess the following:

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology including an in-depth understanding of the functioning of the circulatory and pulmonary systems and the major organs associated with these systems is required. In addition, knowledge of a variety of related acute and chronic disorders and diseases, their effect on the lungs and heart, and the method of treatment.

Knowledge of the pharmacology of common respiratory drugs, common dosages, typical and atypical patient responses and side effects is required.

Knowledge of respiratory therapy and all necessary equipment including but not limited to concentrators, mechanical ventilators, CPAP and Bi-level therapy equipment, pulse oximeters, end-tidal CO2 monitors, suction equipment, oxygen delivery systems, conserving devices, airway clearance devices, portable spirometry testing equipment. The incumbent should be prepared to acquire new knowledge and skills, as necessary relevant to the coordination of care for inpatients and outpatients. The incumbent is expected to perform patient, family, and caregiver education as needed. He/she will educate and train new staff, students, and members of the healthcare team. He/she must have expertise in the operation of all respiratory care equipment and be able to select and manipulate the respiratory equipment and therapy to meet patient needs. He/she must be able to instruct physicians and other healthcare professionals in the proper utilization of respiratory care equipment and therapy. When assessing a patient, providing care, or providing educational instruction, the employee will consider the age of the patient and any learning barriers as well as personal learning preferences as each relates to the ability to understand directions, provide objective self-assessment or any other personal information appropriate to the medical treatment plan.

Skill in performing equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, mask fittings, and equipment cleaning, calibration, and maintenance is required. The incumbent shall be able to monitor vital signs, perform and interpret arterial blood gases, and perform clinical assessments, recommend treatment options, and assess patient response appropriate for a registered respiratory therapist. The therapist is skilled in arterial puncture by utilizing arterial puncture technique with collections via careful anaerobic technique, proper storage of blood until analyzed and utilizing all necessary safeguards to prevent complications from this technique. The therapist performs this duty routinely and without supervision.

The Therapist checks, orders, and maintains an adequate number of supplies needed for the inpatient and outpatient clinic areas. The supplies are to be stocked, assembled and placed in the appropriate areas to maintain a safe, clean work environment.

The incumbent demonstrates the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the following duties within the scope of Respiratory Care. A Respiratory Therapist may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned. Essential functions may change from time to time to reflect the current trends within the field of respiratory therapy, and to meet the cardio-pulmonary needs of the patients served. Essential functions are required to be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time for above full performance ratings. The Dermot Murphy Unit is based in the M20 locality of South Manchester close to the Metro and Bus links. Built in its own beautiful grounds, this modern and purpose built unit has its own parking provided.

The unit is a Continuing Healthcare nurse led facility, which accommodates 22 residents with complex and unpredictable physical healthcare needs e.g. following and acquired brain injury or a diagnosis of a progressive neurological, respiratory, cardiac or renal disease. We are able to care for patients in need of complex airway or feeding regimes, up to and including full invasive ventilation.

The accommodation and environment are designed to deliver flexible and person centred care for each person and we aim to create a “home from home” atmosphere for all our patients. We employ our own chef and social event coordinator which enable our patients to live life to the maximum.

We are now recruiting band 5 staff nurses and are looking for individuals who have excellent communication skills and an enthusiastic approach to nursing.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to deliver assessments, diagnoses and interventions to children and their families in a variety of locations across the city. These posts are within the additional needs team.

You will have experience of working with children and their families, possess excellent time management, problem-solving, analytical and reflection skills. With current knowledge of the implications of the 2014 Children's and Families Act, and a particular knowledge of SEND. Our Clinical Support Workers for the Community Liver Health Checks programme support the roll out of an exciting new pilot project providing community screening of people in hard-to-reach groups for cirrhosis. This project aims to identify people currently using local alcohol and drug services and engage them in screening for cirrhosis and to offer interventions to help their liver health. This project will aim to provide patients with support to attend screening and provide direct to patient incentives to encourage attendance at screening.

The post holder will work closely with the Hepatology Service at MRI and the Infectious Diseases outreach service at community sites, with the community outreach work coordinated strategically by the Greater Manchester Hepatitis C Operational Delivery Network (ODN).

The post will be based in Manchester Royal Infirmary and the post holder will work operationally with the Operational Delivery Network for Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.

The role entails blood tests and performing fibroscans (a type of ultrasound for assessing liver health - full training will be given), delivery of results and engaging patients found to be cirrhotic in preventative health care to encourage them to attend for further hospital screening and offering them health promotion advice. The role holder will work closely with our partners in drug services, probation services, homeless services, and primary care. This will include programmes with existing peer support schemes available within those organisations and the voluntary sector.

Support the Lead Nurse on the national quality board requirements for safe staffing, supporting the process of undertaking acuity monitoring, analyzing data, preparing evidence for bi-annual staffing reviews, and developing the board assurance report. Take advantage of both formal and informal settings to provide people with coaching and encouragement. Actively identify opportunities to influence trust nursing and quality agendas. Participate in the implementation and further development of clinical indicators/metrics and systems of reporting, action planning and sustainability. Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Support the Lead Nurse on the overarching management of the non-medical prescribing service within the organisation. Assist the Lead Nurse by supporting NMP learners during training. Support in the management of the NMP database ensuring that appropriate data is accurately recorded. Assist the Lead Nurse in the organisation of NMP continuing professional development events in-line with the requirements set out in the NMP policy. Support the Lead Nurse in regular audit activity of NMP activity and compliance against national and local guidance. An opportunity has arisen for you to join our Gynaecology Assessment team, St Mary's Hospital MCS at North Manchester Hospital, within Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. This is a permanent position at 37.5 hours per week. Applicants should have NMC Pin to apply.

The unit provides a service 7 days a week, including patients referred via A&E, midwifery team, GP's and other health care professionals or who attend for follow up appointments. The unit provides care for all Gynaecology conditions.

This is an internal application post. Gynaecology Ward and Emergency Gynaecology experience is essential for all applicants.



Gynaecology experience is an advantage. Completion of the Emergency Gynaecology Course is of benefit but not essential as the successful candidate will be enrolled on the Emergency Gynaecology Course providing you with the skills to see, treat and discharge all pregnancy related patients.

The successful candidate will play an essential role in assessing and triaging the patient and delivering timely care, ensuring clear communication with the MDT. The GAU unit has plans to become a 24 hour, nurse led service.

You will be able to support and contribute to a team approach, have the ability to problem solve, analyse and resolve issues. In addition to this, you must be motivated to develop personally and professionally and have exemplary personal standards of conduct.
