We are delighted to provide an opportunity for an eighteen-month band 5 rotation, across an acute oncology hospital and community trust. This post involves 9 months in the Chelsea Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) and 9 months in the Central London Community Healthcare Trust ( CLCH), where you will be based in a community setting.
Your role at RMH will involve assessment, diagnosis, and management of communication and swallowing issues in adults with a variety of cancers, the majority of which will be head and neck cancer. You will have an opportunity to take part in FEES and videofluoroscopy assessments. The caseload will involve both in and outpatients.
Your role at CLCH will involve assessment and treatment of communication, eating and drinking difficulties with adults with learning disability in the community- intervention will be community based with home visits across the Inner North West London Boroughs of Kensington, Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham. We will also offer learning opportunities in paediatrics and adult community services. There will be multi professional working with enhanced support from the Practice Development Allied Health Professionals a the CLCH Academy in Soho.

1.1 The Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), provides a high quality cost-effective SLT service for the patient with cancer. As a qualified practitioner, the post holder is a source of knowledge and expertise for patients, relatives and colleagues of all disciplines. With the support of the Band 7 SLT, they will provide specialist assessment and treatment to patients in the acute setting with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. The post holder will work as part of the SLT team and wider MDT and will be supported and supervised by the band 7 SLT.

• To assess, differentially diagnose and manage patients across the lifespan, with acquired swallowing and communication disorders, including voice as a result of their oncology diagnosis or treatment, under the support/ supervision of a senior SLT as appropriate.
• To manage and prioritise a defined in-patient caseload independently with support and supervision from more senior SLTs, and to manage and prioritise own workload including balance between administrative and clinical duties.
• Developing and implementing individual specialised therapeutic rehabilitation programmes specific to patient’s needs based on assessment using a patient-centred, evidence based, problem solving approach.
• To commence RCSLT competencies for surgical voice restoration (SVR) in laryngectomy, tracheostomy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing ( FEES) under supervision.
• Developing and implementing treatment and educational groups for people with cancer and their carers
