You will assist the pharmacy department in ordering the medicines required to satisfy the needs of a busy hospital. You will also assist in other aspects of the pharmacy service, such as stock management and dispensing, helping to ensure the highest quality of pharmaceutical care is given to our patients. The team has a strong focus on training and development and supports career progression within the department. Service requirements include participation in late duty, weekend and bank holiday working. To accurately process orders ensuring that contract lines have been ordered where applicable. To place orders with Manufacturers and Wholesalers electronically using a web based ordering system. To order medical and special gases when required. To pass invoices and credit notes promptly and investigate, rectify or report discrepancies immediately. To investigate and action medications on 'To Follow' to ensure that the stock is obtained as quickly as possible whilst considering urgency and cost. To ensure that all documentation is completed accurately and filed appropriately and that filing systems are kept up to date and in good order. To liaise with the Procurement Manager regarding out of stocks, non-contract and supplier issues. To claim monies back from Manufacturers for off-contract purchases where applicable. Follow Departmental SOPs at all times.

In order to apply for this post, applicants will ideally possess a Degree/Foundation Degree or be able to evidence equivalent knowledge and skills in a similar post. For applicants who do not meet this criteria, the minimum qualification requirement would be an NVQ III in Health and Social Care or equivalent, with the ability to complete the Foundation Degree being a condition of employment. In this instance, Annex 21 would be applied and there would be a variation in the salary offered during the training period. Responsibilities

Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience in a healthcare or support work role

Excellent organizational and time management skills
Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic health record systems
Certification or training in basic life support and first aid is preferred, but not required

Electronic transfer of patient details and requests via bar-code scanning into the Pathology IT system. Manual inputting of patient details and test requests into the laboratory computer system. Scanning requested forms into the laboratory information system database (if used). Labelling and preparing patients blood, urine, and other fluids for analysis utilising aseptic techniques Sample centrifugation, separation of serum from red cells and pipetting serum aliquots for analysis ensuring that the minimum volume is available for the range of investigations requested. Determination of urinary volume by weight and aliquoting into labelled secondary container as part of the basic requirement for 24 hour urine biochemical tests. Preparation of Danger of Infection samples for analysis in accordance with Health & Safety regulations. Required to resolve problems with mislabelled and/or mislaid samples from users. Inform users if additional or replacement samples are required for testing. Answers telephone inquiries from pathology users, patients and patient carers about test results and provide information that is complex concerning methodologies and service requirements, seeking advice as required. Communicates complex service related test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other health care colleagues, patients and patient carers. Deal with enquiries from patients and visitors to the department. Deliver Pathology reports to the wards if required. Collect and prepare sample waste for disposal.
