An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated band 5 pharmacy technician to join our High-Cost Therapies team at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. You will be required to work in High-Cost Therapies and Homecare in dispensaries, wards, and clinics across all Moorfields sites. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Previous ophthalmic pharmacy experience is not required; however, a solid background in providing a pharmacy service within a hospital setting is essential.
The post holder will carry out the role of Senior Pharmacy Technician for High-Cost Therapies and will be responsible for the following:
• Responsible for the day-to-day management of the pharmacy High-Cost Therapies and Homecare services and dispensing activities.
• Supporting the lead and specialist pharmacists as well as the Lead Pharmacy Technician in the management of High-Cost Therapies and Homecare in dispensaries, wards, and clinics across all Moorfields sites and to ensure that the service delivery at Moorfields network sites is carried out in accordance with trust and department policy and procedure.
• Providing day-to-day training, supervision and support to staff working within High-Cost Therapies and Homecare.
• To provide training information, and advice to pharmacy, medical, nursing, optometry staff, and other allied health care professionals on high-cost drug therapies.
• Responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day workflow in the dispensaries, monitoring the quality of Pharmacy services provided to relevant clinical areas and to actively promote the implementation of important Trust initiatives in order to enhance patient experience and ensure an excellent and cost-efficient service is provided.
The post holder will be required to cover late duties and Saturday shifts on a rotational basis.

High-Cost Clinical Pharmacy Services:
1. Responsible for the day-to-day running of the pharmacy High-Cost Therapies and Homecare dispensary services. To ensure a safe, efficient, responsive, and robust service delivery across the trust and its network sites in accordance with relevant legislation.
2. Support the Lead Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician for High-Cost Therapies and Homecare in the development of the High-Cost Therapies and Homecare services.
3. Responsible for running an efficient dispensing service within the High-Cost Therapies and Homecare. Prioritise and allocate the daily workload to junior staff and ensure High-Cost Therapies and Homecare protocols and SOPs are followed at all times.
4. Responsible for ensuring efficient and cost-effective stock management, working with pharmacy procurement to ensure contract prices are up-to-date and accurate.
5. Responsible for maintaining and supporting the adherence of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) ensuring the team can maintain and improve KPIs.
6. Responsible for the training of pharmacy staff in homecare services, including receiving and generating orders, using the homecare EMIS Pharmacy module, to the homecare providers whilst prioritising and managing urgent prescriptions as appropriate.
7. To assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician in the formal handling, investigation and monitoring of complaints, error reports, incident reports for preventative and/or corrective action and improvement.
8. When necessary, to represent the pharmacy department/Trust at relevant meetings both on and off site, often with external service providers and clinicians.
9. Respond to queries from all Trust staff, patients and external suppliers and deal with any queries, varying in their level of complexity, as required.
10. To participate with the drug recall procedure.
11. To attend any appropriate meetings within pharmacy, the trust, or external agencies.
Supervisory and training responsibilities:
1. Provide day to day supervision, support, and training to rotational pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs).
2. Responsible for the line management of ATOs and apprentices and overseeing the work of the staff working within the High-Cost Therapies and Homecare
3. Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician in facilitating clinical assessments for Pharmacy staff working within the High-cost therapies section.
4. Support the Lead Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician for High-Cost Therapies and Homecare in the development of roles for high-cost Therapies staff.
Education and Training
1. To liaise with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Education & Training (E&T) and the Principal Pharmacy Technician for operational services to ensure implementation of any E&T programmes for Pharmacy Technical staff working within the section.
2. To act as an NVQ assessor to support the E&T of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, ATOs and apprentices within Pharmacy.
3. Act as a role model and provide E&T support on High-Cost Therapies and Homecare medicines and processes for new members of staff and those rotating within the High-Cost Therapies and Homecare Section.
4. Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
5. To contribute to the training of other members of the multidisciplinary team within the Trust as required.
6. Develop and motivate staff to ensure they can and do perform well in their job, contribute towards improvements to the pharmaceutical service and encourage staff to suggest and implement changes to improve pharmaceutical services.
Staff Management
1. To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician in the recruitment and selection of junior technical staff and ATOs working in the Pharmacy.
2. To act as direct line manager to junior technical staff working within Pharmacy and to be responsible for their setting objectives, appraisals, sickness absence and performance management and all related procedures for these groups of staff.
3. Assist in the supervision of all aspects of work by junior staff within the Pharmacy High-Cost Therapies and Homecare section to ensure that procedures are carried out according to local policy and with due regard to the GPhC standards of conduct, ethics and performance.
4. To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician to ensure adequate staff cover is in place at all times in order to maintain an efficient service.
5. To encourage an open attitude to performance and ensure a no-blame culture to enable review of past performance and implement change.
