An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the well-established hysteroscopy service within the Gynaecology Department. You will be motivated and keen to enhance and develop your skills in gynaecology. We currently operate Monday to Friday. The current role is permanent 37.5 hours per week (possibility of weekend work).

We are a small dedicated team of nurses, clinicians and non-medical staff who strive to deliver excellent patient centred care for people with gynaecological issues. These include menstrual disorders, postmenopausal bleeding, colposcopy, cystoscopy, vulval disorders. procedures include hysteroscopy, Bulkamid and LLETZ

The successful applicant will work predominantly in the Hysteroscopy Department, butmay be required to work across the gynaecology outpatient services including Urogynaecology, Colposcopy, Fertility, Early Pregnancy Clinic and gynaecology ward in times of staff shortages and sickness.

Given the sensitive nature of this speciality, the successful applicant will have experience of nursing in Women’s Health and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

As a band 5 Staff Nurse you will be assisting gynaecology clinicians and Nurse Specialists in clinic rooms and gynaecology ward. This will entail preparing equipment for procedures and assisting with the collection of samples. Assisting patients post procedure, either immediate treatment for pain, sickness, vasovagal episodes or help with information and future treatment.

There is also a day to day tasks to help with the overall running of the department. For example, checking of stock, departmental cleaning and preparing paperwork for the clinics ahead.

An important part of this role is supporting patients through their journey within the department. Ensuring patient dignity and being supportive throughout their appointment and procedures. This can be challenging at times as we have women who will get cancer diagnosis or pregnancy loss and therefore require extra care and support.

You would need to be a committed individual able to work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective delivery of a high quality patient experience, with a flexible approach and the ability to deal with the complex and sensitive nature of women's health.

Junior Clinical Fellow (LAS FY2 Equiv) in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery & Orthogeriatrics

Full time - 40 hours Basic

Applications are invited for the above full-time post to commence as soon as possible for a twelve-month contract with the possibility of extension. The post will provide an ideal opportunity for someone with an interest in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and looking to achieve foundation year 2 equivalent competencies. The appointee will undertake duties equivalent to an FY2 doctor.

This post is not a training post but offers a rotation in medicine and surgery. Each Junior Clinical Fellow will be assigned a Consultant to act as their educational supervisor/ mentor to provide support and mentoring.

As a JCF in Trauma and Orthopaedics you will be working as part of a team of doctors looking after orthopaedic admitted patients, hip fractures and ED attendances but also with opportunities to take part in theatre and outpatient activities.

This team consists of 2 rotations with 15 doctors working together, supporting each other to ensure a fair distribution of duties and to enable colleagues to be released to training activities.

The Department consists of 11 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialist, 1 Specialty Doctor, 3 Specialty Training posts at levels 1, 2 and 3, 11 Senior Clinical Fellows (ST3-6 equivalent), 3 FY2 Doctors, 11 Junior Clinical Fellows (FY2/ST1)

You will gain excellent experience in all aspects of routine and emergency medicine, including the hip fracture pathway. The pattern of work is a full shift including resident night on calls (T&O rotation) and long day ward cover (orthogeriatric rotation). Both rotations include weekend cover. Out of hours shifts are fully supported by a resident on call Orthopaedic Registrar.

The Hospital has a modern Medical Education Centre and an active Postgraduate Teaching Programme. Excellent facilities for study and training are available. This post will not contribute towards CCT training and is not recognised by the Postgraduate Dean.

There is a compulsory induction programme which you would be expected to attend, together with the bleep free teaching session which is held on alternate Thursday afternoons in the department.

To work in partnership with the Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology, Senior Midwifery leadership team to provide professional and operational leadership and management of the services, delivering a safe quality service while meeting financial targets.

The Deputy Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology portfolio will include the transformation and development of maternity services, working closely within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all KPIs are met.

Together with the HoM and Director of Midwifery, this role will support the Chief Nurse with the delivery of the wider corporate professional agenda, including the development of innovative strategies for nursing and midwifery to enable a strong and empowered workforce at all levels that is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver excellence in care standards. There will be an opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest relevant to a DGH, service need and applicant’s interest and experience. The appointee should also have MRCP or equivalent grade.

The Neurology Department currently has 8 substantive and 2 locum consultants.

Dr Paul Watts, Clinical Director, Dr Amit Batla, Professor Anette Schrag, Dr Anna Cohen, Dr Floriana De Angelis, Dr Anna Latorre, Dr Sara Collorone, Dr Mara Sittampalam and Dr Talal Al-Mayhani. A specialist registrar from the Royal Free attends once per week on a Tuesday and sees ward referrals and holds an outpatient clinic in the afternoon. The service is also currently supported by two Senior Clinical Fellows.

The department is also staffed by three MS Specialist Nurses, a Parkinson’s Disease Specialist Nurse, and an Epilepsy Specialist Nurse. There are Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy Departments, which are well equipped. Swallowing and Language Therapy Services are supported by the Speech and Language Service and Dieticians, with assistance, as required from a Nurse Specialist in Nutrition.

The Neurology Department currently has four secretaries and an admin lead.

Over 2000 new out-patient referrals and over 1500 in-patient ward referrals are received each year. Almost all in-patient referrals are seen within 48 hours of receipt of the referral and most are seen the same day. There are currently 11 General and Specialist Consultant Out-Patient clinics per week including a monthly MS clinic, a monthly Parkinson’s Disease Clinic and a monthly Botulinum Clinic. In addition, a clinic for pregnant women with epilepsy held every 6 weeks.

The post holder would be encouraged to participate in audits / research with allocated time in their time table. The appointee would have access to all our Library facilities, and be encouraged to attend the Regional Specialist Registrar Programme Teaching Sessions. The appointee will be entitled to study leave as prescribed by the deanery. They would have an allocated Educational Supervisor for all e portfolio activities.

This post would have all the training elements of the current Specialty Registrar programme with opportunities where available to support outpatient clinics whereby they have a specialty interest. The post holder would be encouraged to participate in audits / research with allocated time in their time table. Our maternity unit is one of the busiest in the East of England with over 5300 deliveries per year, resulting in over 900 admissions per year. The unit comprises 37 cots in total: 11 are intensive care, and 8 are high dependency. A comprehensive range of neonatal services are provided at the L&D; i.e. inhaled nitric oxide, high frequency oscillation and hypothermia therapy for neonatal encephalopathy; with close links to Great Ormond Street Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital for surgical and cardiac care. Subspecialty neonatal interests include cardiology, nutrition, respiratory and neurology, with specialist chronic lung disease, neurodevelopment and cardiology clinics.

The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it will provide personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

A 10 PA week divides into a minimum of 8.5 PAs for clinical activity and a minimum 1.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) in agreement with the Clinical and Divisional Directors. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges estimates that 1.5 SPAs per week is the minimum time required for a consultant to meet the needs for CPD for revalidation purposes. CPD activities encompass clinical, personal, professional and academic activities. If required and agreed additional SPA time above 1.5 should be linked to organisational objectives, such as, research, clinical management or medical education roles. The Job plan allocation for Clinical Activity and SPA will be reviewed three months after appointment. A diary exercise will provide evidence of activities. Thereafter review will be annual. This post has the potential to be the lead for Fetal monitoring/ CTG training in the unit in the future.

In addition to the fixed clinical sessions necessary to provide continuous cover in the clinical area, flexible sessions that include time for teaching, administration, management and clinical governance will be discussed and agreed.

The Trust may wish to contract for up to a further 2 PAs to support the provision of extended clinical cover and other supporting professional activities. This will be discussed with the appointees.
