Teaching

You will not be expected to take on any formal teaching responsibility. Help with informal teaching of ward based medical students is encouraged. If you have a particular interest in teaching, we will support you within the constraints of your timetable.

The maternity department is one of the largest in the country, with more than 6,000 deliveries per annum with a 15 bed Consultant led delivery suite, a co-located birth unit performing over 900 deliveries per year and a standalone birth centre at Cossham Hospital with 500 deliveries per year We have extensive maternal medicine services for specialist endocrine, epilepsy, haematology and renal clinics and run additional specialist antenatal clinics for women including substance misuse, mental health and blood borne viruses. We also have an active fetal medicine department and tertiary level 3 neonatal unit.

Are you looking for a job where you can work clinically in a highly respected and effective pre-op and surgical pharmacy team whilst also playing a crucial role in the education of the next generation of pharmacists, then read on!

This is a well-established joint post between Bath University and NBT which is equally split between both roles. The post holder will be responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing practice-based learning at an undergraduate levelandbe part of the Pre-Op Surgery pharmacy team providing a clinical service to the specialty.

This joint appointment will involve working collaboratively with other practice educators to design, deliver and assess practice based learning elements of the pharmacy undergraduate degree course including our very successful Clinical Learning in Practice (CLIP) model. The successful individual would be required to cover a range of face to face teaching activities and elements of assessment. There is also a requirement to provide pastoral support to individual students.

Whilst working within the hospital you will be part of the Pre-Op surgery team, providing cover to the clinic on a sessional basis and supporting the clinical management of surgical patients at NBT.

The role has a major focus on teaching and potential candidates must therefore have excellent presentation and communication skills, have completed a clinical diploma, and be able to work both at the University in Bath and Southmead hospital in Bristol.

Design and deliver high quality teaching which is informed by significant professional experience gained via practice, research/study and teaching experience, to undergraduate students on the new MPharm programme - to include lectures, workshops, applied pharmacy practice skills sessions and supervision of dissertations or projects, assessment and marking and pastoral care of students, in line with Department and University policy. This is a replacement post offering an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic Cellular Pathology Service and to develop specialist diagnostic and research interests with the enthusiastic support of the corresponding clinical teams.

The department has recently implemented a digital pathology solution as part of a pathology network initiative and, once full roll-out is achieved, will provide opportunities for flexible working. Although this is an opportunity to fill a permanent position within the department, consideration will also be given to applicants meeting the requirements of the role wishing to take up the post on a fixed-term (minimum one year) basis.

The post-holder will join the team of specialist Histopathologists within the department who collectively support the clinical services in Bristol and Weston. The service is delivered from a purpose-built Pathology centre built on the Southmead Hospital site. The department continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.





The existing Cellular Pathology service was formed in May 2016 when the North Bristol service and the UHBristol service came together to provide a single service for Bristol. In April 2019, the work that had been delivered from Weston General Hospital also moved to this department. We provide cervical screening services to the South West region.

We, Severn Pathology, provide several services under one roof. Importantly, the Genomics laboratory Hub is co-located with the other pathology disciplines and is the lead provider of laboratory services for the South West of England.

Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must also have Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists.

The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established Haematology Service in a newly developed combined cancer support worker and pathway navigator position. This role will be split into 3 days a week Cancer Support Worker, based with CNS team, and 2 days a week Cancer Navigator focus, based in the Haeamtology administration office.

Under the guidance and supervision of the CNS team and the management team, this combined role will facilitate and support:
• Care Delivery
• Communication and co-ordination
• Information and education
• Administration duties for the Haematology service
