This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of dedicated consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary teams to help shape a modernising mental health service, which has been transformed following recent changes in community settings and inpatient provision.



The consultant will work on the Inpatient Unit at North View, North Manchester General Hospital, for which the move will take place in early November 2024.

The new post holder will have joint consultant responsibilities for Forest Ward. Forest ward is the replacement for Mulberry Ward which is a mental health ward 20 beds. There will be areduction in beds before the move to 17. As such, this advertisement is for a full-time consultant post.

A high proportion of patients admitted to the ward suffer with psychosis and are detained on a section of the Mental Health Act. The consultant is expected to attend daily reviews on the ward and daily ward rounds. They will provide leadership and medical input. They will fulfil the role of the Responsible Clinician. They will be involved in training junior doctors, teaching medical students and engage in clinical management, audit and governance.

Clinical role

· Provide clinical leadership for the ward team and trainees

·The ward has 9 beds and patients can be admitted from across the trust’s patch, it will have 17 beds

·Conduct daily ward reviews and ward rounds, support the team to complete CPA

·Undertake assessments of admissions to the service

·Assist team to diagnose and formulate management plans in all presentations.

·Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.

·Coordinate care with input from pharmacists

·Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers’ Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.

Join an established Inpatient team, and a supportive Consultant group within leafy Trafford in South Manchester. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced RMN to join our expanding Perinatal Mental Health Team. The posts are available at our Cluster 1 team based at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital.

We are seeking a compassionate, person centred individual, with a genuine interest in working with women and birthing people, and their families in the perinatal period, who has excellent communication and multi-agency liaison skills.

The Perinatal Service is commissioned to support women and birthing people throughout Greater Manchester, who experience moderate to severe mental health problems during and after pregnancy, and for their infant up to the age of one year. GMMH are looking to recruit an experienced and dynamic individual into the role of perinatal outreach practitioner for an exciting new team working to bridge the gap between inpatients and community perinatal services.

The Outreach Practitioner will be a member of the Specialist Perinatal Outreach Team, providing outreach services across the wider Greater Manchester area for those in the perinatal period.

The Outreach Practitioner will have a personal case load and will be responsible for assessment, formulation and prescribing of care planning including discharge planning within agreed protocols. They will be providing support to complex cases and ensuring that both mother/birthing person and baby receive the best care. Providing the opportunity to support patients in the community who are vulnerable to admission to Andersen ward mother and baby unit (MBU) and be able to facilitate early and safe discharge.

The post holder will have the knowledge of or a passion for perinatal mental health, and will advise the multi-disciplinary team on expert, safe and effective models of care and treatment.

The post holder will effectively require working across the range of services as determined by service user need.

The successful practitioner is required to be qualified as either a registered nurse, occupational therapist or social worker and be registered with the relevant governing body.

The Practitioner will work closely with the ward and community MDT to identify patients who would befit from working with the outreach team, perform home visits at times on a lone working basis, manage and triage referrals into the ward and the outreach team, act in the role of bed management for Andersen ward mother and baby unit. The post would ideally suit someone with experience of working with families during the perinatal period or a passion for working, learning and developing in this area.

The outreach team also facilitate safe discharge from the ward, developing robust crisis and contingency plans to support leave and eventual discharge from the ward. Once discharged from the ward, the teamwork with mothers/birthing people and their families to offer ongoing support.

The outreach team will also support mothers/birthing people in the community who are vulnerable to admission to the MBU providing short term interventions alongside the patients allocated care coordinator within the wider specialist perinatal community service.

The successful practitioner will need to be flexible within the period of Monday to Friday 9am until 7pm, with a shift pattern to meet the needs of the population.

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join the adult acute inpatient teams, based at Laureate house Wythenshawe hospital in south Manchester. This is a permanent contract and will be working as a therapists in a well established team.

The job holder will be responsible for managing a daily caseload of clients with acute / complex mental health and rehabilitation needs. You will complete a range of assessments and treatment plans to contribute to the discharge planning process based on your professional knowledge. Assistant Psychologist – Adults of Working Age Inpatient Services, North View, North Manchester General Hospital 1 w.t.e, fixed term (12 months) - Band 4

This post provides a great opportunity to gain experience of working psychologically as an assistant psychologist in acute care services (inpatient ward and psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU)) for adults of working age. You will be joining a new team of psychologists and will be working closely with the qualified psychologists to provide psychological input to the Trust’s adult inpatient units in North Manchester. You will be working with an experienced team of medical staff, nurses and occupational therapists. The multi- disciplinary teams on each ward specialise in caring for adults of working age, and offer assessment and treatment for a wide range of mental health needs. The psychology team seeks to support holistic, individualised, culturally sensitive care, planned and delivered in collaboration with each service user. As a team we endeavour to work closely with urgent care and the community teams to ensure a seamless admission and discharge, supporting each person to return to their optimum health.





You will be an active member of the acute care workforce. The successful post holder will be working under the supervision of a qualified psychologist and with the operational support of acute care management to facilitate the running of psychology groups for service users on the wards and PICU. Other tasks include brief focussed psychological interventions, supporting the qualified psychologists with team formulation sessions, supporting the development of new groups and initiatives on the ward and attending peer supervision sessions.

The psychology team is committed to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a compassionate, trauma informed and person centred approach.

The post holder will receive regular clinical supervision from a senior psychologist, and will receive appropriate training opportunities.

We have an interest in working psychologically with people who often do not get to access psychology (such as people with psychotic experiences or complex trauma). We are also interested in adapting psychological approaches to make them more inclusive and culturally sensitive. This post is a key role part of a new 24/7 Mental Health First Response service and be the first point of contact for people who may require urgent mental health support in the GMMH 24/7 Trust helpline/111.

The post involves working with people of all age (Children and Young People, Adults or Older People) experiencing a mental health crisis via telephone triage.

Working as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team, MH First Responders will provide initial assessment and triage via the phone, as well as information, support, signposting, and advice.

They will provide compassionate and confidential support to service users (including carers) and will support and assist individuals to cope more effectively with their mental health issues by assisting them with key aspects of their care plans, (if in place), supporting them in managing distress and challenges / difficulties which they might be finding it difficult to manage their own mental health and wellbeing. MH Practitioners will seek advice from the clinical leads/shift coordinators with any call where the service user may require urgent assessment or signposting to the appropriate services.

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join the adult acute inpatient teams, based at Laureate house Wythenshawe hospital in south Manchester. This is a permanent contract and will be working as a therapists in a well established team.

A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.


This is a full-time appointment for a Consultant Psychiatrist to work with the Central Manchester Home Based Treatment Team. Successful candidates will be expected to work at a senior clinician level reflecting their experience of working in psychiatry. They will be expected to lead and work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of foundation/GP doctors in training, an advance nurse practitioner, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and support workers.

Clinical Duties

· Provide Clinical leadership into the HBTT MDT

· Provide direct clinical care to patients referred to HBTT
