We are looking for a dedicated and skilled IT Resident Engineer to join our team. In this role, candidates will be responsible for maintaining the security posture of scientific IT endpoints, managing security incidents, and ensuring compliance with IT security policies and standards. Candidates will work closely with Research Entities (REs) to provide comprehensive support across a range of IT and Infosecurity operations.
Resident Engineer: Job Duties and Expectations
The Resident Engineer is responsible for the strategic, long-term management of technology-related hardware and software within A*STAR's Research Institutes, as well as overseeing daily information security and IT support tasks. This role includes safeguarding systems and ensuring cybersecurity measures align with organizational needs, address potential cyber threats, and adapt to evolving technologies.
Scope of Work
Asset Life Cycle Management
- Responsible for managing the entire lifecycle and provide technical support for scientific IT hardware and software, from procurement through decommissioning.
- Manage the inventory of scientific IT assets, including dependencies and attributes, ensuring that responsible teams accurately record any updates, removals, or replacements of existing assets.
- Verify scientific IT software assets against licensing agreements and conduct inventory checks on hardware assets, initiating re-tracking and corrective actions, as necessary.
- Provide level 2 endpoints support; Responsible for the onboarding, offboarding, Tech refresh support of entities funded endpoints.
- Plan, deploy and track scientific hardware assets and/or software licenses while making sure they comply with vendor contracts/licensing terms
Endpoint Antivirus Health Check
- Confirm that all endpoints have the approved antivirus software installed and running correctly. Identify any endpoints missing antivirus protection and prioritize them for immediate remediation.
- Reduce the risk of malware infections, ensure endpoint protection compliance, and maintain a proactive cybersecurity posture.
OS Patching Security Hardening and Post Hardening Remedies
- To perform OS Patching and upgrading of entities funded It endpoints.
- To conduct a baseline hardening for all operating supported systems (Windows, MAC and Linux – Ubuntu and CentOS).
- Provide Level 2 support for Linux and Mac scientific endpoints, addressing disruptive issues such as secure connection dependencies, and troubleshooting other Level 2 concerns on a best-effort basis.
Security Incident Response
- IT Resident Engineer to handle security incidents for WOA including triaging with stakeholders like infra team, IT admin officers, RI coordinators and project managers for example. This includes collecting artefacts and preparing incident reports.
- Candidates will guide users on the appropriate next steps after they report the loss of their IT assets to the Service Desk.
Evaluation for Cross Border Travel
- Evaluate the compliance of entities funded IT endpoints for user’s cross-border travel requests in a timely manner.
- Ensuring adherence to organizational policies and regulations. This includes verifying that all necessary security measures and configurations are in place to meet compliance standards before travel.
Requirements
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
- Professional IT Support certifications.
- Familiarity with industry IT standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience in endpoint security, incident response.
- Competent in Windows/Linux/Mac OS/iPad environments.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in a multi-tasking, fast-paced and complex work environment.
- Ability to work as a team and independently with minimum supervision.
