Hays Building Services are pleased to be assisting a public sector organisation in Bath with the recruitment of a Mechanical Services Engineer to support their busy team.

Your New Role

You will manage the services provided by the mechanical services section, including operational and maintenance services, to ensure that mechanical services, plant and equipment are operated and maintained safely, efficiently, reliably, and compliant with relevant legislation.

You will add and update assets on the Department's PPM database, schedule and issue PPM work to craft supervisors or specialist contractors as well as provide engineering related advice and consultation for new build and refurbishment projects to client departments as necessary.

What You'll Need To Succeed

You will have previous experience within Mechanical/Plant Maintenance or Building Services Engineering, experience in building services engineering maintenance management, as well as experience of management, supervision or instruction of craft staff and specialist contractors.

This role is being offered at an hourly rate between £17 - £24 per hour on a interim contract for 3 months initially.

Your new role
The roe will require the following Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance in accordance with all NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, relevant NHSPS Technical Guidance, Process and Procedures, Statutory Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice and any applicable aspects of HTMs
• Ensue that new or revised practice and policies are implemented within own work areas.
• Deliver Scheduled, Reactive and Remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner (CAFM), helpdesk or Technical Services Supervisor, ensuring that operational standards are always maintained.
• Duties may include (but not limited to) fault finding, minors repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments.
• You may be required to undertake tasks in disciplines other than your own.
• Ability to assess problems to determine the best course of action, this would include complex technical issues and be able to communicate technical and or complex information to various stakeholders.
• To maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises where required, ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role you will need one of the following qualifications,

• BTEC City & Guilds plus relevant experience and training.
• NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Formal apprenticeship or craft trained equivalent

Additional requirements for the role include,

• Driving licence is essential
• Must be comfortable using technological devices to log jobs.
• On-Call availability
• Desirable to have industry experience
• Ability to work alone and/or as part of a wider team as this role will require you to work cohesively with other Technical Disciplines.
• DBS Cleared.

Responsibilities – Work you’ll do:

• Review of drawings and procedures designed for AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 installations and upgrades.

• Act as liaison during industrial installation.

• Coordinate testing of newly upgraded systems.

• Witness shipyard conducted tests as per direction of ATT Management.

• Perform fault isolation and conduct corrective actions.

• Resolution of any issues associated with installation and testing of sonar systems.

• Support assessments and at-sea test events as required.

• Fulfill duties as an on-site representative for the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 system. These responsibilities will include:

- Perform direct support to expedite problem resolution and to minimize any schedule impact caused by USW system equipment problems.

- Provide installation and testing inputs to daily and weekly reports.

- Deliver a CD of the electronic database as requested.

- Document visual/mechanical and electrical discrepancies discovered during Assessment testing.

- Perform configuration audits to verify installed USW system baselines on specified hulls per schedule and instructions provided.

- Perform System Interoperability Validation (SIV)/equipment grooms using Government approved procedures.

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

• Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds, climb ladders, and perform other shipboard activities.

• Understanding of Basic Sonar Principles, equipment, and interfaces.

• Operate standard electronic test equipment i.e. Multi-meters, O-scopes, etc.

• Ability to troubleshoot and test connectors, cable, power.

• Ability to load AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 software as per government provided documentation.

• Technical experience on U.S. Navy combat systems.

• Proficiency in MS Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.

• Proven experience effectively communicating with senior US government representatives.

• Bachelors degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience (additional experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree)

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education – Favorable if you have:

• Experience working in a shipyard environment.

• CISCO Networking, Security+ or Red Hat Linux certification.

• Technical Documentation Experience, including Engineering Change Proposal/Order (ECP / ECO) Experience.

• Direct customer support/interface experience.

• Strategic mindset.

• Ability to independently research, assess and present analyses of technical/logistics data and recommended options for government decision. 

Clearance Required:

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
