Your Role

As a Senior Project Control Engineer, working alongside our existing team of commercial, risk and project management professionals you will develop project schedules from first principles, establish robust monitoring and methods of analysis with periodic reporting up to senior levels and make recommendations to the project and programme teams.

You will lead a small team of Project Control Engineers whilst managing your own portfolio of projects and contribute to the continued development of the department.

Who are we?

We are seeking individuals to join our Projects Group Function, where you will be part of a dynamic team controlling the development, delivery and programme management of a range of exciting projects across the whole of Greater Manchester, including over £1 billion of investment in Rail, Bus, Active Travel, Metrolink and Highways infrastructure.

At TfGM Project Controls is based upon the Association for Project Management framework to support project delivery by providing solutions to four fundamental questions:

What you’ll bring

You will have significant experience of working in a Project Controls environment with prior experience of complex highways, large civils infrastructure or specifically rail projects being of advantage.

You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of planning techniques, cost and change control, baseline management principles and be proficient in the use of Primavera (P6), Microsoft Project, Excel and SAP.

You should also be able to analyse contract programmes and understand the principles of NEC contract management in relation to programme. Good communication skills, self-motivation and a proactive approach to working are essential. You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent levels of experience.

This is a permanent position with a salary of £67,015 - £74,092 per annum. This is comprised of a base salary £56,361 - £63,438, plus market supplement of £10,654 per annum. The market supplement is paid monthly and reviewed annually. Salary on appointment will be dependent upon your skills and experience.

As Senior Process Engineer, you will:

- Lead development of process design process deliverables such as process models, mass balances, control philosophies.

- Analyse site performance and identify risks that may impact project delivery. Develop mitigation to avoid negative impacts or exploit opportunities.

- Supporting the development of other process engineers, coaching and mentoring junior engineers to develop their skill set and identifying the correct resource for the projects.

What's needed?

• A good knowledge of structural engineering principles and relevant design codes of practice (Eurocodes), and the ability to apply these across all projects.
• A good knowledge of structural engineering materials, to include steel, concrete, timber and masonry.

RESPONSIBLIITIES

Your new role
You will be joining the team in one of three possible locations as a Senior Software Engineer. In this role your day-to-day responsibilities will include, designing and developing on-board and ground test software for payloads. You will be a proactive team player, who will solve root cause issues using strong analytical skills, estimating resources for completing software solutions, and effectively documenting and presenting information. You will have the flexibility and willingness to travel to other locations when necessary.

Please note that due to the nature of this work, you will need to hold the full right to work in the UK, and have the ability to pass a Security Clearance.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, it is essential you can demonstrate the ability to derive software designs from requirements. You will have experience developing Python applications and modules, and developing C/C++ for Linux systems. Prior experience with formal development processes and tools like Git and Jenkins is also required. It's a bonus if you can demonstrate a track record of innovation, designing high availability and secure software systems. Furthermore, knowledge of wireless telecommunications, Python numerical libraries, radio frequency test equipment, Linux kernel, device drivers, and an understanding of electronics hardware. On a personal level, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a history of developing quality software, and have a proactive approach to volunteering for additional work. You will be skilled in problem identification and resolution, show strict adherence to schedules, and have the ability to clearly communicate with the team.
