EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Computer Engineer – Network Systems Applications in our Hughes Network Systems division.   This position is located at our Gaithersburg, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute the design and implementation of network solutions and automation tools for use in integrating, testing, deploying and verifying distributed application systems required for satellite ground networks.
• Conduct the requirements analysis necessary to establish performance requirements and features of the tools and solutions under development.
• Plan and execute network application systems design, primarily within a Linux environment, using C and C++, and conduct software state machine analysis and development to deliver near real-time software and asynchronous programs for ground network communication systems.
• Serve as a primary liaison to external vendors and to internal development teams to qualify hardware and firmware for release in the production environment.
• Establish the requirements of the application’s Production environment to include server configuration settings, resource requirements (servers, logging, etc.) and routing management.
• Be responsible for selecting the most appropriate network protocols (UDP, SCTP, TCP, DNAT) to be employed in the development projects and establish the optimal configuration settings to integrate the delivered network application systems within a production Linux environment.
• Plan and implement the deployment of network applications during the testing and release phases of development, including the development of automation solutions for deployment tasks employing Python.
• Perform post-deployment verification to ensure the application release meets established functionality.
• Regularly interface with client teams for technical discussion of production issues and to plan and execute delivery of design solutions.
• Plan for the integration off-the-shelf services, such as AWS, with existing network application systems to meet the features development requirements and timelines specified by clients.
• Coordinate development efforts with the senior technical leads for software delivery timelines, task management, and delegation to other team members.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns as a subsystem lead regarding SOPs for developing and deploying production ready software for engineering use.

Basic Requirements: 

• Masters degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering and 12 months of experience in the position or in a Software Developer or Computer Programmer position. 
• As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering and five years of qualifying experience in the position or in a Software Developer or Computer Programmer position will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

• 12 months of experience conducting application programming or development to support broadband data network operations.
• 12 months of experience employing C and C++.
• 12 months of experience with Python.
• 12 months experience with the Linux operating system to include scripting, network & device configuration, services, and system maintenance.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.

Responsibilities:

• Organize files for storing into electronic drop boxes (AS9102/CofC work).
• Creating test summaries for sign-off and submittal to customers.
• Support vendor management activities and incoming commodity inspections.
• Shadow Materials Engineers to support everyday activities including root cause and corrective action activities.

Basic Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.  
• 3.0 GPA or above
• 60 credit hours or more by start of internship, June 2024

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of electronic & mechanical components.
• Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Experience with precision measurement equipment (micrometer, calipers, gauges, DMM’s)
• Aptitude to work closely with SMT assembly line and supporting failure resolutions.    
• Experience using 3rd party software packages (Minitab, GIDEP, Silicon Expert & ERP/SAP) is a plus.
• Familiarity with IS09001/AS9100 quality principles is a plus.

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Supplier Quality Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position will be located in our Gaithersburg/Germantown, Maryland location.  

Responsibilities:

• Work with suppliers related to electrical components to include relevant SMT & PCBA manufacturing experience & background
• Working with suppliers of Power Supplies, Power Amplifiers, Feedhorns, Antennas, Servers, Board Assemblies and the associated SMT components.
• Document & communicate issues using measurement, photographic and video equipment.
• Work in a fast-paced production environment to provide technical support to Operations/Manufacturing personnel.
• Working with potential new suppliers to survey their manufacturing capabilities including production processes to ensure products will meet PPM level quality standards.
• Interaction and coordination with design engineering personnel to ensure smooth product transitions from development to high volume production.
• Review potential supplier quality issues at incoming inspection, new product introductions, high volume production & customer returns.
• Participate in MRB process to disposition non-conforming materials and will drive the associated 8D problem solving process.
• Support Procurement through input to supplier selection, review of new cost reduced and alternate parts via the send-ahead process.
• Participate in Concurrent Engineering (CE) Team meetings to communicate problems and work with Team to resolve issues.
• Ability for occasional travel is required.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required and to include some component engineering background.
• 2-3 years of relatable work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of quality systems and processes such as ISO9001, AS9100D, SPC, PPAP and six sigma methodologies.
• Effectively communicate with design engineers, manufacturing personnel and lead root cause and corrective action efforts
• Quality background working with suppliers
• Technical knowledge of electronic components (active & passive) to lead efforts to improve quality and production test yields.
• Familiarity with SiliconExpert Component database or equivalent.
• Experience with SAP is preferred.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written is a must.
• Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Network Test and Integration Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division.  The position is located in our Gaithersburg, Maryland office. Hughes has initiated next generation communications system projects comprising 5G, LEO, and GEO for mission critical applications. We are using an agile approach and cutting-edge technologies for 5G core, open RAN, resilient satellite terminals, and smart software technologies including AI/ML for resiliency and orchestration. With industry leading technical portfolio and small and nimble team environment Hughes would like to benefit from your experience for this exciting project which is expanding to additional sites and capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and execute tests for terrestrial telecommunications systems.
• Track and document test results and present to management / customer.
• Develop and maintain regression test suites.

• Collaborate with partners for test and integration of different subsystems of communication networks such as 4G and/or 5G networks.
