The Opportunity
A new opportunity has arisen for a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer to join the Inspection Branch of the Structural Integrity (SI) Function within EDF UK's Nuclear Services.

The Inspection Branch provides EDF UK Licensees with the technical knowledge and expertise required to support the delivery of new nuclear build projects (HPC and SZC) and in-service inspection activities for the UK fleet of operating nuclear power stations.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the NDT Group Lead, you’ll play a key role in ensuring inspection quality and compliance across new nuclear construction projects.

You'll support the development of inspections critical to the project’s Safety Case, as well as manage Inspection Qualification activities for Pre-Service and In-Service Inspections (PSI and ISI).

Your role involves coordinating PSI and ISI implementations at both site and vendor locations, reviewing and approving NDT activities across manufacturing, construction, and operational stages, and acting as the Intelligent Customer for the Licensee.

Additionally, you’ll provide technical support for procurement strategies that impact the construction phase, contribute to project decision-making, assist in root cause analysis for inspection non-conformances, and embody the core values of the HPC project, fostering their adoption among team members and partners.


Who you are

Your background may include some of the following:


- Proven experience of In-Service Inspection in a relevant industry.
- Hold PCN ISO 9712 or equivalent certification Level 2 or 3 in a variety of NDT techniques.
- Hold, or be actively working towards, a professional accreditation (e.g. BINDT) relevant to inspection.
- Experience with managing projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with developing and implementing advanced inspection techniques and / or automated inspection systems.
- Experience with production and reviews of Technical Justifications and Technical Capability Statements to underpin inspection capabilities.
- Familiarity with inspection simulations software such as CIVA.
- Experience with applying Design Code and standards for NDT inspection.
- Experience with managing a range of stakeholders and demonstrating strong influencing and communication skills.
- Experience with developing and supporting NDT inspections of nuclear power station components is desirable.

What you’ll be doing
You will focus on qualifying mechanical and/or electrical/I&C equipment for accident conditions. As a vital member of the team, your primary role as the EQ Lead Engineer will be to support the EQ Group Lead in coordinating NNB’s design initiatives. This includes leading the daily execution of a portion of the team’s scope, collaborating with other EQ lead engineers, mentoring junior EQ engineers, and overseeing tasks from supply chain partners.
You will manage the resolution of complex technical issues and conduct the technical review and acceptance of design documentation provided by the RD and suppliers. Additionally, work closely with Technical Engineering Leads to ensure thorough design substantiation, build relationships with stakeholders, facilitate communication with regulators, and provide technical input for risk management, all while assisting in the development of less experienced team members.
Who you are
You’ll get to use your expertise in mechanical, electrical, or I&C component design and operation while showcasing your excellent communication skills. A good understanding of Safety Case principles, especially the application of ALARP throughout the project lifecycle, is key to your success. You’ll play a vital role in leading multidisciplinary teams through complex engineering challenges.
Familiar with risk assessment methods and have knowledge of PWR nuclear power plant systems. Understanding UK Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and ONR guidance, as well as French EQ standards for equipment qualification, will also help you thrive. Plus, experience with ageing, obsolescence, or lifetime management of mechanical and electrical systems, along with proficiency in Teamcenter Engineering document management, would be a bonus. A relevant engineering degree and some hands-on design experience will round out your qualifications nicely!

The Opportunity…

We are currently looking to recruit a Reactor Physics (Criticality) Engineer to join our Fuel and Core Branch (F&CB) as part of the Nuclear Services Business.

We’re after an individual with a scientific or mathematical background who is motivated and eager to learn. The role will be primarily focussed on developing capability in Criticality Safety such that the individual can study, analyse and provide authoritative advice concerning nuclear aspects of fissile material handling and storage at UK nuclear power stations. This is a great opportunity to develop knowledge of nuclear fuel design and fuel route operation in an operationally supporting project environment. There are also many opportunities to diversify into other technical areas, in particular Reactor Physics, which involves analysing reactor neutronic and thermal hydraulic behaviour to support activities to comply with the requirements of the Nuclear Site Licences.

As a member of the Reactor Physics and Criticality Group, you will report to the Reactor Physics and Criticality Group Leader and work closely with other Nuclear Services groups, EDF Licensee Groups and Power Stations.

What you’ll be doing?

As a Criticality Safety Engineer, you will primarily focus on supporting the Criticality Safety Case in the Nuclear Fuel Routes of all EDF reactors. Specifically, following relevant training, you will work as part of a team to:


- Perform Monte Carlo based calculations of the neutron transport equation using geometric models of the nuclear fuel under varying conditions and fault scenarios;
- Assess proposed fuel route operations to identify potential hazards and faults which may pose a criticality risk;
- Analyse faults to determine risk and identify appropriate safety measures to reduce the risk in line with the ALARP principle;
- Implement criticality safety cases to the required quality and process to become part of the station safety case;
- Review other proposed safety cases to examine the impact on criticality safety and provide advice as necessary;
- Provide advice to station in response to events on-site and evolving situations;
- Liaise with station staff and other technical areas to discuss training, operational experience, work requirements;
- Support the maintenance of the required codes (verification & validation, version control etc.) and manage tasks in a UNIX environment;
- Be able to clearly specify work for others, collaborate with supply chain partners and act as an Intelligent Customer for externally-produced work.
- Support the Group Leader in the management of strategy, risk, work planning, resource and budgets where appropriate.

- Familiar with generic concepts of modelling and simulation, prediction uncertainties, verification and validation.
- Technical computing in a UNIX-like environment, scripting and data analysis tools.
- Use of Monte Carlo computer modelling codes and techniques (e.g. use of MONK, MCNP, SERPENT etc.).
- Experience of the legislative requirements of the Nuclear Industry (in particular safety case development).
- AGR or PWR operations from a Nuclear Safety Group, or Operations, perspective.

In your role, you will be maintaining technical oversight of the design and supply chain, to ensure the safety case requirements are captured and fulfilled during the design, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning of the plant.

The role sits within the Mechanical Equipment team, which is responsible for technical oversight and delivery of ~150 equipment contracts placed across the whole plant.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop in depth knowledge on EPR design and operation, to work in a fast-paced project environment.

You will work on Radiological Consequences tasks and projects for multiple nuclear site licensees (generation, decommissioning, and new build) within Nuclear Services. Tasks and responsibilities include the following:

The Opportunity…

At EDF we are building two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point C, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. We have a fleet of operational Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors, and a Pressuriser Water Reactor at Sizewell B, and we are making preparations for the construction of two further reactors at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

We are looking for a Hazards Safety Case Engineer, who will be responsible for ensuring that internal hazards are fully considered in the design of our nuclear plant.

As a Hazards Engineer, you will be looking ahead for the lifetime of our plants and evaluating the hazards that may affect them. This includes internal hazards such as fire, flooding, dropped loads etc that could be cause by faults inside our buildings. You will consider the impact that hazards could have on the safe operation of our plant and work to ensure that we have a secure safety case.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who have a background in Nuclear Safety Cases or Hazards Analysis, and who are keen to apply their experience to a nuclear energy context.

Sizewell C (SZC) has a number of opportunities for skilled Safety Case practitioners in the Safety Case Branch of our Design Authority (DA). We are currently producing the SZC Pre-Construction Safety Report (PCSR) which support the release of the First Nuclear Safety Concrete milestone in the construction sequence.

At this time, SZC DA require a lead verifier for the PCSR who will ensure the safety report as a whole is fully verified, drawing on the knowledge of multiple verifiers appointed to review sections/sub-sections. This individual will be a skilled safety case practitioner who has already worked in UK safety cases and has experience of meeting the expectations of our regulator, ONR.

The Role
The Design Authority (DA), as part of the licensee organisation, is responsible for developing the nuclear safety case and maintaining its integrity throughout the full lifecycle of the nuclear power plant.

Whilst PCSR verification is anticipated to be your first priority, as an experienced Safety Case Engineer working in SZC Design Authority, you will play an important role in many areas of Licence Condition 14 compliance. You will provide technical leadership in resolving challenging issues to support the construction, commissioning, and eventual safe operation of the Nuclear Power Plant. You will have opportunities to gain experience and work in a variety of different aspects of the safety case from developing the main Safety Report through to managing the resolution and closing out EPR GDA (Generic Design Assessment) Assessment for the SZC project. In your role you will be supported by and need to engage with a variety of disciplines within the wider organisation (Nuclear Analysis, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Operations), while also working with OEM designers/suppliers and internal/external regulators.

The opportunity

You will form part of the Graphite Technology Group, whose remit is to manage the development and deployment of numerical modelling methods, which are designed to forecast the levels of radiolytic oxidation and degradation of the material properties of graphite core components. Current methods utilise either physically based models involving assessments of the chemistry and physics of the reactor system, or empirical methods based upon statistical analysis, with ongoing active development of hybrid approaches.

The role is both technically and organisationally demanding, requiring excellent numeracy, science and engineering abilities as well as inter-personal and leadership skills, to achieve the best results from teams which may include both EDF and external partners.

What you’ll be doing

The scope of the role will involve:


- Development of modelling approaches to predict the weightloss of graphite core components.
- Developing strategies to assess uncertainties in weightloss forecasts, through diverse modelling and inspection analysis.
- Establishing or extending limits on weight losses associated with various nuclear safety related issues.
- The technical management and scope setting of the Graphite Research and Development programme, working with university staff and EDF R&D:


- Net Zero Development (AMR and SMR)
- AGR development

The role includes undertaking technical analysis, with its associated reporting, as well as specifying and monitoring projects carried out by external partners.
The Graphite Technology Group also undertakes stress analysis, whole core modelling, core monitoring and the analysis of inspection data. There may be opportunities to develop experience in these wider areas.
Your principal accountabilities will include:


- Reporting to the Graphite Technology Group Head
- Providing technical advice on graphite weightloss and weightloss limits
- Support to model development
- Interaction with group activities on graphite safety cases, core inspection and whole core modelling.

Who you are

As a minimum, you will hold a degree (or equivalent) in a scientific, engineering or mathematical discipline.

You will have analytical, problem solving and numeracy skills and be self-motivated, with a track record of achieving results. Diligent and enquiring, with a desire for continuous improvement and have excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to work as a team member.
Ideally you will have some knowledge of materials science and/or chemistry, numerical modelling, statistical analysis or modelling and/or software development.

You’ll have experience of working with or leading technical teams and prior knowledge of graphite corrosion or irradiation-induced property changes in graphite, within the nuclear industry.

The Opportunity…

We are currently looking to recruit a Reactor Physics (Criticality) Engineer to join our Fuel and Core Branch (F&CB) as part of the Nuclear Services Business.

We’re after an individual with a scientific or mathematical background who is motivated and eager to learn. The role will be primarily focussed on developing capability in Criticality Safety such that the individual can study, analyse and provide authoritative advice concerning nuclear aspects of fissile material handling and storage at UK nuclear power stations. This is a great opportunity to develop knowledge of nuclear fuel design and fuel route operation in an operationally supporting project environment. There are also many opportunities to diversify into other technical areas, in particular Reactor Physics, which involves analysing reactor neutronic and thermal hydraulic behaviour to support activities to comply with the requirements of the Nuclear Site Licences.

As a member of the Reactor Physics and Criticality Group, you will report to the Reactor Physics and Criticality Group Leader and work closely with other Nuclear Services groups, EDF Licensee Groups and Power Stations.

What you’ll be doing?

As a Criticality Safety Engineer, you will primarily focus on supporting the Criticality Safety Case in the Nuclear Fuel Routes of all EDF reactors. Specifically, following relevant training, you will work as part of a team to:


- Perform Monte Carlo based calculations of the neutron transport equation using geometric models of the nuclear fuel under varying conditions and fault scenarios;
- Assess proposed fuel route operations to identify potential hazards and faults which may pose a criticality risk;
- Analyse faults to determine risk and identify appropriate safety measures to reduce the risk in line with the ALARP principle;
- Implement criticality safety cases to the required quality and process to become part of the station safety case;
- Review other proposed safety cases to examine the impact on criticality safety and provide advice as necessary;
- Provide advice to station in response to events on-site and evolving situations;
- Liaise with station staff and other technical areas to discuss training, operational experience, work requirements;
- Support the maintenance of the required codes (verification & validation, version control etc.) and manage tasks in a UNIX environment;
- Be able to clearly specify work for others, collaborate with supply chain partners and act as an Intelligent Customer for externally-produced work.
- Support the Group Leader in the management of strategy, risk, work planning, resource and budgets where appropriate.

The opportunity

As the Software Analyst / Engineer, it will be your role to ensure application-based services for Nuclear Operations are supported and maintained in line with business need and technology changes. We primarily require individuals with experience in development and support of Power Apps and SharePoint online with the skills to work in a team. Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, ALM Accelerator and Oracle APEX would also be favourable.

The post holder will support and develop Power Apps and SharePoint Online applications maintaining compliance with change management processes. They will interface with the Nuclear Operations Business, wider EDF business, direct partner organisations and 3rd parties supporting/supplying services to gather information evaluate requirements and to provision advice and guidance in support of applications services.

This role will be based at either our Gloucester or Glasgow office and you will be required to be in the office around 2 -3 days a week.

What you will be doing

As a Software Engineer/Analyst you will carry out the following duties:


- Implement Power Apps solutions following best practices for performance, scalability, and extensibility
- Experience of hands on development, canvas apps and model driven apps
- Work closely with business teams to understand requirements and translate into technical solutions
- Design and develop new SharePoint sites, pages, custom forms, automate, workflows, and applications

Who you are

For this position, you will have a relevant HNC such as Computing, Engineering or Science (or equivalent). Candidates with a relevant degree may have an advantage.
Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of nuclear safety, license conditions, security regulation and compliance and how they apply to IT projects, products and services. You will understand the concept and requirements of an “Intelligent Customer” and have knowledge of the key business application and information management landscape, and an ability to understand how this is employed within Nuclear Operations. A good working knowledge of central and station business operations within Generation would be ideal.
Your skillset will include excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate at different levels across the company and excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to demonstrate a methodical approach with a focus on standards and attention to detail.
You will have extensive experience in IT/IT Support with a strong technical or process background and demonstrable experience in software development and/or business system support. Experience of establishing and maintaining relationships in order to achieve support, understand constraints and work collaboratively to achieve business objectives.
You will also have experience of employing modern software development methods with a good understanding of DevOps principles, substantial time working within a nuclear regulated environment with a good understanding of nuclear safety, security and regulatory requirements (preferred) and be capable of leading discussion on requirements/development, and delivering sound decisions, based upon consensus and the application of standards and best practise.
You will have experience of being able to possess and apply human performance tools and nuclear safety culture principles to enhance safe and reliable operation.

We are looking for a Materials Testing Engineer to join our Structural Analysis Branch (SAB), providing support to structural integrity issues across our internal customers.

Activities are varied and aimed at providing input for structural integrity assessments of operating nuclear power plants, as well as likely to be used in Generic Design Assessments of future UK Small Modular Reactors and high temperature Advanced Modular Reactors.

What you’ll be doing…

In your role you’ll perform materials property testing within our Materials Testing Facility (MTF). The role also includes aspects of management of the MTF such as maintaining safe working arrangements, managing the MTF lab maintenance budget and arranging for continued investment in the equipment.

Part of your role will involve liaising with external suppliers for equipment and test sample manufacture associated with tests, as well as dealing with manufacturers for equipment maintenance and trouble shooting.

From time to time, training/mentoring/supervision of others will be required and where requested, advice on testing programmes provided to the other parts of the organisation.


Who you are…

You’ll need a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering subject and holding a degree is advantageous.

We are looking for agility in structural integrity support, as well as a good understanding of the behaviour and properties of metals (carbon steels, low alloy steels, stainless steels and nickel alloys).

You’ll be experienced in a range of test types for metals including tensile, fracture toughness, low cycle fatigue, fatigue crack growth, creep, creep-fatigue and creep crack growth. These cover a range of conditions from cryogenic to creeping temperatures.

You’ll be familiar with recognised UK and international materials testing standards and procedures. You should also be familiar with the requirements for UKAS accreditation and surveillance.

Training can be provided to assist in upskilling where required, particularly with regard to the specific processes used within EDF, our Quality Management processes, and any bespoke testing carried out.

What you’ll be doing… Within the Thermal Hydraulics Group, you will be responsible for assessing the performance of the primary and secondary reactor circuits and process control systems, considering how that may affect the design and operation of our nuclear power station. This may include:

- Providing temperature, pressure, flow and process control assessments to optimise performance and operational compliance of the reactor, core, boilers/steam generators and whole plant systems and individual components.
- Supporting safety cases and technical programmes where oversight of thermal-hydraulic steady-states and fault transients are key aspects.
- Problem solving with the aid of simulation tools, control system design packages & mathematical plant models.


The work in the main provides plant operational support, and thus requires a high degree of cross-functional working and close collaboration with other departments and the power stations.

- Design and manufacture of fuel, fuel components, and core components

What you’ll be doing…

You will work as part of a team to:


- Assess changes to fuel designs and manufacturing to ensure fuel components perform as desired in-reactor and during post irradiation handling. This can involve data at atomic level, right through to consideration of entire fuel assemblies.
- Interact with power station personnel to advise on and resolve issues involving irradiation, handling or storage of fuel, fuel components and core components.
- Write and verify safety cases to demonstrate the safety of the fuel, fuel components and core components.
- Review technical reports and engineering drawings submitted by suppliers for their acceptability to specification, quality and adequacy.
- Carry out calculations and also provide judgements to support all of the above.
- Interact with key stakeholders including the Fuel Vendors, Fuel Contract Managers, Office for Nuclear Regulation, the station Nuclear Safety Groups and Fuel Route Groups, and other senior company stakeholders.
- Keep up to date with industry research and operational experience in the fuel design discipline.
- Drive your own training and development, within our structured training arrangements.
- Attend, chair and/or act as secretary for various technical meetings and working groups.

The focus will be water reactors, with some AGR work likely.


Who you are…

Your background should include the following:


- Qualification or relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Applied Physics, or a complementary technical discipline.
