The Primary Purpose of this position is serve This an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer position located at an Air Force Reserve Flying Squadron. The purpose of this position is to manage the total operations function of the squadron on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible to the Aircraft Operations Officer/Air Commander for all matters pertaining to operational readiness and effectiveness of the unit.
2. Directs all operations and maintenance training programs for the Squadron.
3. Instructs or examines pilots in flying proficiency, plans flights and training missions, evaluates pilots, plans course outlines. Ensures the operational readiness and effectiveness of the unit.
4. Analyzes directives from higher headquarters and information available in form of accident reports and mission readiness reports in order to develop operational plans, standard operating procedures, and implementing instructions.
5. Ensures the operational readiness and effectiveness of the unit. Ensures effective unit manning, retention, and recruitment of personnel. Observes and evaluates effectiveness of training programs and operation of other activities supervised.
6. Supervise, direct and monitor operations programs for the training of a Reserve flying unit, including flight operations, unit training, intelligence, communications and tactical planning.

• Leads and manages the Computational Aerosciences Branch with the Branch Chief by providing supervisory oversight, technical guidance, and personnel coordination in a complex and high-performing organization.
• Supports the Branch Chief by providing specific technical and administrative direction to subordinates, assisting in resource planning, aiding in development of strategic objectives, and defending organization and employee work to higher management.
• Plans and manages agency project supporting tasks involving innovative concepts or approaches.
• Supports the Branch Chief by managing a team of high-fidelity modeling and simulation code developers responsible for advancing computational fluid dynamics, aeroacoustics, fluid-structure interaction, and multi-physics capabilities.
• Provides guidance towards computational analysis tasks pertaining to space vehicle development, which include aerodynamic database generation and debris impact assessments for launch vehicles.
• Fosters inter-organizational technical collaboration and exchange, to include collaborators from NASA, industry, academia, and governmental entities, to advance the state of the art in computational aerosciences in service of the NASA missions.

• Serve as an advocate for the scientific content of the various projects and research activities being conducted within the Ocean Ecology Laboratory in support of NASA GSFC’s Earth Science Division.

• You will ensure that training system workstations are configured according to specifications provided by the Training Management Systems (TMS) designers.

• You will formulate and manage the development of curricula for undergraduate flight training.

A GS-2181-13, AIRCRAFT FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR:

• Plans and implements flight training and instruction for rated pilots and instructor pilots in accordance with the Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
• Adjusts course material to meet individual needs.
• For a substantial portion of the time, performs one or more of the following:
  • a) trains, instructs and evaluates pilots in operating aircraft using advanced instrument flight techniques;
  • b) instructs pilots in methods of instruction and evaluates instructor pilots' proficiency to engage in flight instruction;
  • c) instructs pilots in operating advanced attack helicopters or heavy multi-engine advanced transport helicopters.
• Conducts training flights involving operating an aircraft through reference to instruments and use of automatic direction-finding equipment such as Omni directional radials, ground control approach and instrument landing systems on and off Federal airways.
• Conducts refresher, mission and continuation combat training in advanced attack helicopters involving aggressor and defensive maneuvers and aerial gunnery practice with heavy ordinance and/or trains and instructs pilots in the operation of heavy multi-engine transport helicopters to transport equipment and personnel in combat situations.
• Trains pilots in the full range of aircraft maneuvers required in combat situations.
• Provides instruction in emergency procedures such as loss of propulsion, directional control or related systems.
• Performs flights in all-weather/environmental conditions, day and night, and using night vision devices.
• Prepares and presents related classroom instruction.
• Recommends whether pilots remain in flight status.
• Conducts refresher, mission and continuation training in light fixed wing or utility and observer helicopters.
• Trains pilots in basic and advanced techniques required to support the Pilot's unit mission.
• Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard such as training helicopter pilots in advanced flight techniques required in combat situations, tactical flying at night in all weather conditions and with the use of night vision devices, flight maneuvers which take advantage of the terrain, low level flight, short field takeoffs and landings, flying in formation. evasive maneuvers and emergency procedures involving engine failures and malfunctions of hydraulic and electrical systems over hazardous terrain.
• Performs routine operational flight assignments.
• Transports passengers including dignitaries to and from a variety of different points.
• As required. performs maintenance test flights of aircraft following repair of maintenance.
