Applications are invited for a CRUK-funded research fellow position, to understand the mechanisms by which the human papillomavirus (HPV) causes anal cancer. This exciting, timely and transformative research project has the potential to change clinical practice in how we treat these debilitating cancers. Together, we will characterise the key cellular factors underpinning the response to radiotherapy in these cancers to identify novel factors for therapeutic intervention. This research project is a collaboration between experts in HPV (Macdonald) and radiotherapy (Sebag-Montefiore, Samson), combining biochemical, genomic and virological approaches to tackle an important outstanding clinical question on the role of HPV infection on the response to therapy. HPV infection is responsible for ~90% of anal squamous cell carcinomas (ASCC) and virus infection is typically indicative of a positive prognosis in contrast to HPV negative ASCC; however, despite this, most patients that do not respond to radiotherapy are HPV positive. Therefore, it is crucial to uncover the molecular mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance to develop smarter, kinder treatments for these cancers. We have already obtained biopsies from patients that have responded to treatment compared with those who have since relapsed or never responded and will perform RNA-sequencing to look for distinct transcriptional profiles. Therefore, this is an active project that requires someone to drive it forward. You will join a vibrant research community within the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Leeds, including LeedsOmics and the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology.

You should have a PhD (or close to completion) in virology/cancer biology/radiotherapy biology or a closely allied discipline and experience in cancer and cell biology.

The Macdonald group uses cell biology and biochemical techniques to answer important questions about how DNA tumour viruses perform their infection cycles, and in doing so, we hope to understand how they cause disease and ultimately develop strategies to prevent growth and thus disease. Our group is an international authority in DNA tumour virology, we regularly publish in leading journals (e.g. PMID: 38987584, PMID: 37443304, PMID: 33627786; PMID: 35194151; PMID: 33303976) and present our work at national and international meetings. Driver Trainer (LGV)

Gregory Distribution Ltd (GDL), is seeking a dedicated Training Business Partner to join our Thorne depot. This role is essential in ensuring that our drivers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain high safety standards, comply with industry regulations, and meet company objectives. You will work closely with management across multiple sites to implement effective training programs that drive change, enhance safety, and ensure operational excellence.

The position involves:

• Collaborate with management teams across designated sites to identify training needs, establish annual training plans, and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Champion safety initiatives and drive change in collaboration with site management.
• Provide comprehensive driver training, including the mandatory Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training.
• Develop and deliver Task-Specific Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) training and other specialist training modules.
• Conduct the Group Induction for all new employees, ensuring they have a thorough introduction to the company's standards and expectations.
• BRC Quality Standards training.
• Lead or assist in incident investigations, performing root cause analyses to inform preventative measures.
• Training 'Authorised Site Specialists' in some specialist areas i.e. LST and Assessor training.
• Engage with customers to ensure training aligns with client expectations and addresses any specific needs.

Essential Skills required:

• Minimum of 3 years driving at Category C+E (LGV) with a clean record (no more than 3 penalty points).
• Demonstrable experience in a training or assessing role.

• Strong understanding of LGV regulations and compliance standards.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
• Willingness to adapt to changing schedules and travel as required across sites.

Desirable Skills required:

• Teaching qualification (PTTLS or L3 EAT).
• LGV Assessment or Instructional Qualification
• Quality Standards experience.
