THE POST

Required from Easter 2025 (21 April 2025), the Trustees are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, experienced English teacher to teach and lead English in our Free school, which opened to Year 7 only in September 2022 and now has Y7 – 9. The ability to teach up to GCSE is essential and the ability to teach to A level desirable. The successful candidate will be a joining the team of highly experienced English teachers within the School who work collaboratively with staff at Barton Court Grammar School. The TLR2c will progress to a TLR2b over time as the school grows and the level of responsibility increases.

The successful candidate should be able to deliver excellence in the classroom, providing innovative and inspirational teaching and learning. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work with colleagues to build a vibrant and outstanding department. This post is suitable for an experienced professional looking to further their expertise.

The Role

The Bennett Science Department is an exciting and dynamic context in which to work. Science has a central place in our curriculum, alongside Mathematics and English, at all stages and for all students. Our vision for the subject is for it to contribute even more fully to the academic development of all our students and for their preparation for life, work and study in the modern world.

This commitment is realised in a number of ways. Science is taught to all students in Years 7 to 9. Following a review of the science curriculum, all students from Year 7 to 9 follow a mastery curriculum with a carefully planned progression through the three separate sciences. All science teachers are involved in teaching KS3 science. In order to ensure that non – specialist teachers are able to deliver the KS3 sciences effectively, the Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, along with the Head of Science, have a pivotal role in developing challenging schemes of work and leading professional development about subject specific pedagogy.

From Year 10 onwards, the vast majority of students follow courses in the three separate sciences, securing accreditation in each of them at GCSE. Working in partnership withDartford Grammar School, the Academy is one of only 19 schools in England to have been chosen.

Under the Language Hub initiative, the Academy will take the lead in promoting language studies amongst students, spanning from Primary school to GCSEs. It will also be aiming to enhance language offerings within schools and ensure that all students aged 14-18 have the opportunity to pursue language studies through to Key Stage 5.
