The role
We are delighted that you have taken an interest in the vacancy of Teacher of MFL (French and Spanish) at Holland Park: it is an extraordinary school.

The department
The languages departmentat Holland Park is expanding due to our transition out of early entry GCSEs. Currently with 7 languages teachers, the department teaches French, Spanish and Latin, and, as such, the ability to teach more than one language is desirable. Languages are compulsory up to GCSE (in the new MFL specification, students will be examined with Edexcel).
With very strong departmental results, and a friendly team of dedicated teachers, the department is committed to broadening the horizons of all students andsmart working practices.Pre- and post-pandemic, we have run trips abroad each year, in addition to a number of visits closer to home, such as to the BFI or French institute (within walking distance). Over the past 5 years, several students have gone onto study languages at Oxford, with programmes as varied as Spanish and Arabic, French and Italian, and Classics with English.
About you
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
• To create an exciting learning environment securing department improvement, raising attainment and achievement.
• To plan, resource and deliver lessons to a high standard that ensure real learning takes place and students make good progress.
• To prepare, develop and deliver lessons in the timetabled subject, according to the schemes of work agreed within the department.
• To ensure that all students achieve at chronological age level or, if well below level, make significant and continuing progress towards achieving at level.
• To monitor and record the performance of students.
• To foster and maintain high standards of effort and discipline amongst the students by the use of appropriate school-based rewards, negotiated goals and sanctions.
• To encourage effective learning by the appropriate use of formative assessment, target setting and the development of teaching and learning styles.
• To foster an atmosphere of mutual respect with students in all classroom activity.
