As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Work with private landowners, agency representatives, and others to develop and implement habitat management plans.
• Identify and record vegetative types and wildlife usage relative to improving the habitat for migratory and resident priority species.
• Identify limiting factors of wildlife populations and develop plans and methods of improving priority species populations.

This position is located at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in Keystone, South Dakota. The primary purpose of the work is custodial, janitorial, and outdoor landscape work with a preventative maintenance emphasis such as small plumbing and electrical repairs, grass cutting, line trimming, sweeping, washing windows and walls from ladders or manlifts, dusting and polishing museum artifacts, interpretative panels, and providing maintenance, cleaning, and trash removal from multiple receptacles. Work is done by hand or with ride on or walk behind power equipment. In order to accomplish the custodial/janitorial assignments the incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, or utility vehicles) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located at or near Mount Rushmore. This position is not a Testing Designated Position.

AREA INFORMATION:
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is located three miles west of Keystone, South Dakota, in the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota. Housing for purchase or rent, schools, medical and dental facilities, churches of most faiths, and shopping are available in Rapid City, 25 miles northeast of Park Headquarters, and in nearby Hill City and Custer.

The selectee of this position leads a crew of lower level co-workers (laborers) involved in the construction, repair, and upkeep of government boundary fences, roads, culverts, corrals, trails, campground facilities and buildings. The selectee receives oral and written instructions from the General Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for safely and efficiently carrying out the assigned duties and completing daily work reports. The selectee operates and maintains equipment and vehicles with gross vehicle weights up to 23,000 pounds in order to haul equipment, personnel, fence posts, tools, and related materials to work sites. Selectee also digs holes, mixes and pours concrete, cleans culverts, installs drainage pipe and culverts. Removes deteriorated posts and wire. Uses and instructs laborers in the use of hand tools such as hammers, rakes, shovels, post hole diggers, wire stretchers, axes, saws, and wrenches. Operates a tractor, post hole digger, rollers, tampers, and pressure washers. This position requires heavy physical effort to haul materials and equipment to work locations. Selectee will frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds, continually walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling and pushing. The work is primarily outdoors and may be in temperatures up to 100 plus degrees. Work is performed in backcountry terrain that is uneven, steep, and rocky. As needed, the selectee may also work as a flagman on road projects, picking up litter, digging ditches, and loading/unloading supplies, furniture, mow lawns, re seed roadsides, repair trails and assist with building maintenance. Must be able to operate gasoline and diesel powered equipment including rotary self-propelled mowers, brooms, weed trimmers, chain saws, jackhammers, dump trucks (with and without trailers), tractors, rollers, snow plows and compactor equipment.

The selectee of this position identifies grasses, weeds, shrubs and trees. Provides care and maintenance appropriate for specific grass, tree or plant species. Will safely operate gasoline and diesel powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 10,000 pounds and capable of carrying loads weighing less than 1 ton, to include small tractors, small utility vehicles, riding lawn mowers and riding power lawn sweepers. Will perform routine cleaning duties of buildings, to include waxing, stripping, polishing floors, cleaning restrooms ,dispose of trash, care of outdoor sidewalks and steps, polish furniture and exhibit cases, refill soaps and replace lightbulbs when needed. Will also perform ground and trail maintenance duties on paved and unpaved trails, including washing, sweeping, filling holes, checking hand rails and replacing trail lights. Will assist in installing fences; repair corrals, haul furniture and supplies; Pick up litter; clean rain gutters, Mix / haul concrete, and may occasionally also work as flag person on road projects.

Area Information: Wind Cave National Park is located in the southern Black Hills of southwest South Dakota. Climate extremes range from sub-zero temperatures during winter to over 100 degrees during summer. MAJOR DUTIES:

• Provides laboring assistance to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc.
• Drives vehicles up to 10,000 lbs. such as pickup truck, small UTV, operates equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools such as shovel, rake, lawn edging equipment, etc.

Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, provides janitorial duties for buildings, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort.

• Provides patient management, care coordination, and discharge/disposition planning for inpatient and outpatient settings using all elements of the nursing process.

The MSA was established to ensure assistance to Veterans providing a smooth process for the management of Veteran's outpatient appointments as well as support work of the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). The MSA coordinates with the Clinical Team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports (i.e. Clinic Utilization Statistical Summary), ensure that the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic, and make any necessary adjustments. The MSA develops/maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA Medical Centers, and other agencies (e.g. assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA medical facilities by fax; facilitate/process secure messaging with the patient and team; develop and manage a tracking system for follow up care as such consults, tests, etc.)

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Instructing employees in the numerous clerical procedures of the different services or any tour of duty.
• is responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality with respect to the Privacy Act.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
• Serving as a key contact for veterans and visitors, providing information and assistance, and acting on administrative matters in the veterans' interest. Gives messages lo patients, doctors, nurses, other multi-disciplinary team members and responds to routine inquiries (i.e., where a patient has been transferred, appointments, etc.). Refers questions concerning patient's condition to the nurse.
• Incumbent may be designated as a member of committees. Participates in quantitative and qualitative reviews of medical records to assure conformance with VA and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization standards and orients professional staff in requirements for compliance. Such reviews will include verification and completion of physician's orders, patient allergies, and demographics information obtained by routine chart audits.
• Accurately and legibly transcribes physician's orders as per established policies and procedures assuring that the appropriate patient identification is present. Evaluations and treatment with other supporting disciplines within the Medical Center are coordinated for timely completion and to avoid schedule conflicts. In the case of medication/treatment orders, assures that the times the medications/treatments are to be administered are correct and sends a copy to the pharmacists. Prepares request forms for such things as - rays and consultations as prescribed on the doctor's order sheet. Employee will check off, date, time and initial orders verifying completion.
• Orders expendable supplies monthly and stocks main station areas with proper forms when assigned to wards.
• Reviews charts, assembles, and maintains the medical record forms in proper order for use by the physicians and nursing personnel in accordance with Medical Center policy and procedure.
• Keeps current on clerical duties related to final discharge care of patient (i.e., eligibility, travel, appointments, prescriptions, prosthetics, and nursing referrals). Schedules follow-up appointments in the computer system. Responsible for breaking down charts, according to an established protocol for all discharges, assuring that all forms have the appropriate patient demographics. Responsible for recharging carts when appropriate.
• The incumbent will utilize equipment such as computer terminals, printers, typewriters, imprinters, and localized fax machines.
• Routes prescriptions to pharmacy; independently or as a team member, performs the clerical duties of the ward unit relevant to ongoing patient medications and treatments.
• The incumbent will have a thorough knowledge of medication terminology/abbreviations and procedures for recording physicians' orders, especially for identifying generic and brand names of chemical compounds and to accurately transcribe drug names, dosages, and time of administration.
• The incumbent will routinely demonstrate stability and effectively exercise independent judgment. The MSA will foster and consistently maintain good public relations with patients and visitors as well as maintain an effective working relationship with clinicians and other Medical Center staff.
