SGLD- Litigation Solicitor
Job Description
The Litigation team in the Scottish Government Legal Directorate is looking for a C1 to join their team as a Litigation Solicitor. The successful candidate will be working on a suite of civil court cases arising from the prosecution of individuals. These cases are high profile and important in terms of their potential impact on the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).
Key Responsibilities
- Working with junior and senior counsel and providing them with instructions to ensure they have correct information and proper understanding of the COPFS position.
- Analysing significant amounts of information to determine what is relevant.
- Working closely with law accountants to resolve all outstanding civil expenses claims between the parties.
- Advising on communication and handling issues.
- Assisting with a range of document management work streams including the completion of time lines, decision logs and case summaries for each action.
- Assisting COPFS with all matters arising in respect of the actions as required.
Essential Criteria
- Litigation experience, or a willingness to learn and develop such skills.
- Ability to manage information and interpret data to enable you to make sound decisions and provide clear and competent legal advice for government.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with senior colleagues and stakeholders and convey complex issues clearly and concisely.
- Ability to organise and manage your own workload in a flexible way to respond to competing priorities effectively.
Requirements
- 12 months (possible of 3 month extension) of experience in litigation or a willingness to learn.
- Ability to travel to the Crown Office and the Court of Session in Edinburgh as required to meet the needs of the client/ court.
