Quantity Surveyor - Clean Water Treatment Project

A leading water treatment specialist is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a major clean water treatment project. This exciting opportunity will involve managing costs, ensuring the project is delivered on time and within budget while maintaining the highest quality standards.

About the Role:

As Quantity Surveyor, you will play a vital role in managing costs, ensuring the project's financial success and compliance with contractual obligations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Cost Planning & Budgeting: Developing and managing accurate cost estimates and budgets for the project, ensuring feasibility and alignment with project goals.
• Contract Administration: Managing and administering contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
• Procurement: Overseeing procurement processes, including tendering, evaluating bids, and awarding contracts.
• Cost Control: Monitoring actual project costs against the approved budget, identifying and analyzing variances, and implementing cost-saving measures.
• Variation Management: Evaluating and valuing variations and claims arising from project changes or unforeseen circumstances.
• Claims Management: Preparing and negotiating claims against contractors and subcontractors for additional costs incurred. Analyzing and responding to claims submitted by contractors, ensuring fairness and compliance with contract terms.
• Reporting: Providing regular reports on cost performance to project managers and stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Proven Experience: You have a minimum of years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with experience in clean water treatment projects.
• Technical Expertise: You have a strong understanding of clean water treatment technologies, processes, and equipment.
• Quantity Surveying Skills: You are proficient in using quantity surveying software and have a strong understanding of cost analysis methods.
• Contract Management: You have experience in managing contracts and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
• Communication: You are a clear and concise communicator, able to explain cost issues effectively to clients and colleagues.

Hays Construction are now recruiting a Senior QS / Quantity Surveyor for a highly reputable, family-run main contractor based in Lincoln.

This contractor has over 20 years of experience producing impressive projects across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. They have built an excellent reputation for providing an innovative and progressive approach to both public and private sector clients. Their project experience covers the key sectors including Hospitality, Private & Commercial, Residential, Health, Office & Retail and Education. Due to continued success and a further increase in company growth, a position is now available for a Senior / Quantity Surveyor to join their Commercial Team.

Your new role

Within your new role you will manage the cost of projects worth up to £20m. You will be responsible for providing Quantity Surveyor functions including commercial transactions, commercial reporting and cash flow management on allocation projects. You will work within an integral part of the business, reporting directly to the Commercial Manager and working closely with the Operational Team, ensuring projects are delivered on programme and within budget.

You will be office based 4 days a week and required on site at least once a week.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a degree-educated Quantity Surveyor, and must have at least 5-10 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor. Experience of working on civil projects would be an advantage. You will be computer-literate, and will have experience of using relevant software. You will be ambitious, commercially astute, and keen to establish yourself as a QS / Senior Quantity Surveyor with a growing main contractor who will be offering you a long-term career.

An SME Contractor based in Lincolnshire is currently on the lookout for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor - to join their operational team.

This well-established company operates across the UK and with the overwhelming growth and demand in the market, the company plan to deliver a wide range of projects in order to expand and build on their already prestigious project portfolio. With impressive builds and refurbishments across a variety of sectors including education, healthcare, public sector, leisure, residential, hospitality, this contractor now has a requirement for a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing construction team and be responsible for aiding with all front end activities.

Your new role :

Reporting to the construction Manager and working closely with the Operational Team you will be responsible for the cost estimating, tendering, front end pre start of a variety of projects as well as providing regular updates on the performance of on-going projects valuing up to £10mil.
As the Quantity Surveyor your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out the day to day administration of the commercial and financial aspects of projects bids
• Close liaison with the Project Management Team(s)
• Aiding of bid submissions
• Preparing Cost and Value reporting
• Manage procurement including labour, plant, materials and subcontract
• Contributing to monthly board reports via the construction Manager
• Cost control
• Subcontract management enquiries/procurement and liaison

What you'll need to succeed :

In order to be successful in this role, you will have prior experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor at pre construction stage for a construction company or have solid experience and be ready to take a step into a more senior role. This role would require you to have strong negotiation skills to work with subcontractors and clients to reach positive commercial terms and minimise any commercial risks to the business. You must have good technical knowledge and skills in the construction sector and a good knowledge of commonly used contracts and frameworks. Ideally, you will hold a formal qualification in quantity surveying at degree level. However, candidates will be considered with HND/ HNC qualifications and relevant experience.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

• A degree/HND or equivalent in Commercial Management/Quantity Surveying or other construction related subject or substantial previous experience in a similar position
• A commercially and contractually astute individual that takes ownership of performance
• A proactive person with a disposition to take action pre-emptively to manage risk and opportunity
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Results driven with the capability of working on their own initiative
• Ability to deal with large amounts of data accurately and efficiently
• High attention to detail
