Senior Construction Buyer - Renewable Energy (Office based) - Glasgow - Salary circa £55,000 DOE

Reporting to the Financial Director the Senior Buyer will be responsible for creating a new buying division. You will be responsible for growing and managing this division and growing your own team within the business. Duties & Responsibilities:

- Growing this division from ground up
- Managing a robust procurement and ordering process.
- System upgrade and implementation.
- Providing prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings.
- Identifying potential suppliers and new products.
- Contacting suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations.
- Agreeing delivery times.
- Keeping detailed records and maintaining well-organized work schedules
- Negotiating contracts with supplier
- Performing cost analysis

We are currently looking to recruit two Senior Quantity Surveyors to join our team within Lovell’s North East region.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the financial cost control and reporting of one or more developments from the Award up to and including completion of client and sub-contract final accounts, recovery / discharge of all retentions.

Applying yourself in a professional environment, you will liaise with clients and subcontractors, having the confidence to go out to projects / properties when required to do so. This position will involve working within a busy Quantity Surveying department on new build and refurbishment schemes.

As an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will hold a formal qualification such as HNC in a relevant subject, with previous substantial quantity surveying experience within the construction industry. Client-driven, with experience in housebuilding, you’ll hold a valid CSCS Card which is essential to the role. Candidates will have strong decision making and communication skills, as well as having experience of managing teams and be able demonstrate strong leadership and the ability to develop a small team.

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Senior Quantity Surveyor, as part of the Technical Conservation Team.

The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) and Cambridge.

What you will be doing

The Technical Conservation Team in the National Specialist Services Department specialises in the conservation of buildings, structures and landscapes. We set standards and provide specialist technical services and strategic leadership on the technical aspects of the care, repair, maintenance and adaptation of the historic built environment. We do this by developing and promoting evidence-based technical guidance and best practice to support those who care for and make decisions about the stewardship of the historic environment.

In this in-house client side advisory role, you will play an active part in developing, maintaining and promoting appropriate standards, guidance and best practice on the application of quantity surveying and construction procurement in respect of our advisory and grant giving functions. This will include providing specific cost, procurement and QS advice/services to deliver repairs and conservation works contracts relating to nationally and regionally managed grant projects, and properties owned and managed by Historic England.

Who we are looking for

You must be a Chartered Quantity Survey (MRCIS or FRICS) to apply for this role.

Experience of the range of procurement methods available in the construction industry

Experience of various Standard Forms of Contract (e.g. JCT & NEC suites) and preparation of associated tender and contract documentation

Experience in dealing with a wide range of contractual issues

Experience of working with repairs and alterations to existing buildings

Knowledge of the Public Contracts Regulations and updates in Public Procurement

Ability to undertake critical review of documentation prepared by others, identify errors, omissions and risks, give constructive advice, and recommend mitigation
