The role:

As a Senior Composite Design Engineer, reporting to the Mechanical Engineering, you'll have a role out of the ordinary. Day-to-day you'll:

• Provide expertise in the design, development and testing of mechanical components, specialising in composite components

Essential experience of the Senior Composite Design Engineer:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be working as part of a small team of engineers designing new and maintaining existing products.

Main duties & responsibilities:-

As a member of the mechanical design team, you will take responsibility for delivering new product designs under the supervision of the Mechanical Team Leader.

To create and update 3D CAD models, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks in line with BS8888 and company practice.

To generate accurate bills of materials on the company's manufacturing system.

To take responsibility for delivering allocated projects, making sure they are running to schedule, concessions are assessed and approved/rejected.
To work closely wit the other engineering team members on other projects and activities
To produce design-related documentation, including, specifications, manuals, assembly instructions, illustrations, costing and test procedures. Also, to check and approve all documentation as required.
Responsible for ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with the integrated management system.
Actively contribute to continuous improvement so that we conduct our engineering activities in the most professional & efficient manner possible.
To assist, as required, in the assembly and testing of prototypes.
To undertake as required, customer and supplier visits by car. As such a full driving licence is required

Qualifications:
A Mechanical Engineering degree (2:1) preferred or equivalent

Experience:
Experience in detailed product design
Proven experience with simulation methods such as FEA, thermal and vibration analysis
Owing to the nature of the work, precision engineering backing is preferred.
Experience in the design of complex mechanisms is beneficial.
Design for defence and similar demanding environments an advantage

Knowledge:
General knowledge of manufacturing methods such as machining, casting & moulding
DFM and DFA experience
3D CAD modelling in a manufacturing environment (preferably SolidWorks)

Skills & Abilities:

Are you a Design Manager within the Civil Engineering industry, with experience working on a live project? Are you looking for a new permanent opportunity in 2024? If the answer is yes then this may be the perfect opportunity for you, working with a leading Tier 1 contractor within the Civil Engineering industry.

Start Date: March 2024

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 per annum dependent on experience

Responsibilities:

• Working with and leading team of design engineers
• Recording the progress of works on record drawings
• Ensure all design solutions are affordable and developed within the project budget
• Make sure solution risk is appropriately managed
• Contribute and create design documents
• Ensure sustainable design solutions are completed in accordance with CDM regulations
• Be able to provide design solutions that meet all requirements within the programme systems
• Control, monitor, record design changes to maximise cost efficiency
• Liaise and work alongside the programme manager to agree design costs and timescales
• Deliver the design stage outputs for each project

Requirements of the successful Design Manager include:

• Experience within the Civil Engineering Industry
• HNC or equivalent, ideally in Civil Engineering
• CSCS card
• Professional Experience as a Designer
• Able to create, read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
• Knowledge of technical project delivery
• Delivery driven with the ability to set targets to manage and motivate teams

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with our Enterprise Architects, Product Owners and Engineers in agile delivery teams. You’ll be responsible for the architectural design and definition of solutions ensuring alignment to the AXA Health IT target architecture.

What you’ll be doing:

Defining the solution vision, roadmap and capabilities required
Evaluating solution options, integration patterns and recommending the right solution for the situation
Collaborating with internal teams to ensure solution design complies with security and data protection best practices
Ensuring architecture standards and governance processes are followed
Building close relationships with key stakeholders, team members and, if appropriate customers, to obtain feedback and understand priorities
Demonstrating a good level of architectural understanding of modern security practices and standards
Seeking out and providing regular feedback on performance and delivery
Researching and designing technical solutions that meet stakeholder needs, delivering tangible benefit to the business
Establishing a network of peers across IT and other AXA entities
